Standing characters who alread Standing with Distinct Mastery.

By chaosbird, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi All,

This question is only technical and not part of any combo or special circumstaces I met so far, but still would like to know:

Can I stand a character who is already sanding as an effect? Also, can I kneel someone who is already kneeling as an effect?

Yes and no. The fact that a character is already kneeling or standing does not prevent them from being chosen as the target of such an effect (unless the effect specificies that the target must be kneeling or standing). But be aware that the effect does not resolve successfully in such a case. If you have a response or a dependent effect (i.e. a "then" effect) that requires a card to kneel or stand, it requires them to do so successfully or else it cannot be triggered (response) or doesn't initiate ("then" effect).

But you *could* play Distinct Mastery even if all of your applicable characters are standing, if you want to reduce your hand size for some reason (Clansmen, Kings of Winter).

Ok guys, thanks a lot for the answers!
