Key Terms

By oshi2, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

So, the term "defending player" has recently been clarified to me that it is specifically the player is currently declared against. The player that would play claim, regardless of supporters. It's not a very common term, since its basically only used on CORE Stannis and any pseudo-claim cards...A significant difference from "The defender", while very similar this one basically seems to include supporters (as per the last line of the example of the supporting rules).

But i suppose its worth noting because its a term really not described anywhere that i can see. I kinda had to derive this from all the current cards with the term, and ffg's ruling on stannis and supporting players.

Are there other undescribed terms like this? probably too many to mention lol. What about "losing opponent" on the spoiled card "No Quarter", would a supporting players characters be legal targets?

"If your characters defend a
challenge in support of another player, you are
considered the
winner (or loser , depending on the
results) of the challenge
, but the original target
of the challenge is still responsible for any claim
that would need to be resolved."

So if you support someone and fail, you are the "losing opponent." Says so right there.

I figured as much... Just making sure, even though you are considered to have lost as the defender; you are not in any case "the defending player".

Is there anything other than the example which states that when you support you are considered the "defender" as well?

Very new to the game. (Played twice) Very enjoyable but my rules set does not explain all the traits such as ally, mercenary etc. I have tried the website but cannot download an up-to-date set of all the rules. How do these traits work?

Your rulebook is fine. These traits are not explained anywhere in the rules, and they don't have to. In and of themselves, they have no meaning at all. Only when a card effect refers to them do they become important. Examples of such cards that affect traits are Shaggydog , Kennel Master , Joffrey or Army of the Faithful . There's plenty more, of course.

Just wanted to say thanks. Now all I need is acces to the FAQ section and I will be away. Any advice on how to find a link that will work? Cheers
