New player, little help needed

By Zembar, in CoC Rules Discussion

Just purchased the core game and played today, have a few questions I'm not too sure of how they work or couldn't figure out.

1. You commit a character with no Terror icon to a story. You opponent commits no characters, you do lose the Terror struggle(or Combat/whatever)? Or can you only lose a struggle if your actually opposed by your opponent.

2. Forced Responses. Specifically Ravager from the Deep's. Does it happen as soon as I commit him? or does it wait until I've chosen all characters to commit. Example: My opponent commits a few characters to a story, I want to commit Ravager and another character of my own, I commit Ravager first, then my other, will my other character take a wound? Or would it trigger as soon as Ravager is committed, causing wounds to my opponent, but let me commit more without my own characters taking wounds.

(Wording for Ravager's ability for reference: "Forced Reponse: After Ravager from the Deep is committed to a story, wound all other characters at that story.")

3. Opening Night story card. How exactly does this work? Does only the player who won the story card get his characters, does he get all characters(both his and his opponents)? or do both players get all characters they own back into play, insane? Not too sure (though we played it the last way)

Think thats all, or all I can remember at least. Gotta say overall this game is pretty easy to learn.

1. You only lose a struffle if (a) there is at least one character commited by the opponent and (b) the sum of your oppenent characters icons is stricly greater than yours. That's the basic, the "Fast" keyword changes this a little.

2. You commit all your characters at the same time. So, if you commit the Ravager with another character at the same story, that character will be wounded.

3. The player winning this story might choose the activate it. If he does, both players bring back their characters in play under their respective control.

If your opponent hasn't got any characters, it's really hard to have fewer icons than him. Only the skill struggle (which is numeric) can fail if you have zero skill and your opponent is a no-show.

If you haven't already, grab a copy of the FAQ from this page: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=11&esem=4

It'll help clarify a lot of those tricky issues.

Welcome to the game!
