A Short Review

By Old Dwarf, in The Lord of Nightmares Trilogy

Dance of The Damned
This is Alan Bligh 1st FFG book of The Lord of Nightmares Trilogy
& it's head & shoulders above Ghouls of the Miskatonic(IMO).

The first few pages are a little shaky as the author seems to
try out every Lovecraftian adjective he can find but then
it settles down to a good read.

Of course you have 2 main characters from AH that
will obviously be OK as the action goes from New York,
Arkham to Kingsport.

Unlike Ghouls Bligh doesn't throw out a massive
body count & the story line just seems a lot stronger.

A lot of the later action takes place in Kingsport &
the author does a good job invoking Lovecraft's
town descriptions. The Terrible Old Man even has a
logical role.

The book ends on a real cliffhanger that makes you wish
that the 2nd book in the series was available.

I agree it's a better book than the Ghouls of Miskatonic.

I enjoyed both but the GoM was more obviously "work in every character from boardgame you can, in a fun ride" whereas this was more "a novel using some of those characters when appropriate, in a good story". It was more interesting to read and the plot has more "character-driven" stuff etc.

Thats good to hear... wish I could find some more reviews

Luckily I finished dance of the damned.

The first 150 pages at most where too slow paced to my liking.

The followwing half of the book has better pace but i got hooked only in the last 50 pages or so.

I give it a 4 on 10.

Instead of having 2 trilogies i would liked more 6 independent books. Cause now i dont know if i will go for the second and third part...will let you know :)

Still its somehow good to see Arkham characters in action within the book.

Today Ghouls arrived so lets get to it.
