next deluxe xpac

By dcdennis, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

now that all the houses have their own deluxe xpac, what's next?

any rumors of adding a 7th house?

Somehow I doubt they'll add a 7th House proper, as in a new House card, but I could definitely see a deluxe expansion dealing with Arryn or Tyrell as multihouse or neutral cards, something along the lines of House of Talons and House of Thorns from the CCG days. It's probably a little too soon, but maybe Wildlings or Night's Watch could too.

I'd like to see a "North" expansion, so that you can actually play with those cards.

my hope is a like a 'revenge of the under used traits' and have cards for:

captain

basterd

conscriptor

storyteller

skinchanger

traitor

etc.......

don't forget Fool (only 2 cards in the LCG)

I'm really annoyed that Queensguard hasn't gotten more love for Targaryen. I could see a really good set of cards that could deal with that trait very well in the form of "Additional Themes of Thrones" deluxe expansion.

Also, a 7th House might be too much. All 6 main Houses plus the Neutrals already have so many cards that an additional 7th would require at least 2 expansions just to play catch up and maybe 2-4 Chapter Packs worth of cards for additional themes/boost in power.

Personally, aside from the Queensguard, I would really like to see past Kings, their Kingsguard, and most importantly the "Others/White Walkers" get some cards.

I've always enjoyed the historical characters they've printed. ('ll define historical as "not living as of the first book in the series")

Rhaegar, Daemon Blackfyre, Ser Gerold Hightower, The Laughing Storm, Ser Arthur Dayne, and Balerion the Black have all been interesting cards. I think seeing folks Ser Duncan the Tall, Aemon the Dragonknight, Mad King Aerys, Bael the Bard, Aegon the Conqueror, and Bran the Builder in card form would be fun.

I really want them to also print some new Dragons. Maybe give us 2 new weenie Dragons. 1 cost, 2 STR, military icon type weenies. And then maybe some of the more "famous" historical Dragons or even just entirely new named Dragons. I like Viserion/Rhaegal/Drogon/Balerion... but I feel Dragon decks could use some other Dragons to support them.

Also, I've been really hoping with each Chapter Pack announcement we get a Mad King Aerys but it hasn't happened yet.

not technically true

Kings of the Sea and Princes of the Sun are really the core sets for Greyjoy and Martell, i think the 4 core set houses have around 150 house specific cards while Martell and Greyjoy only have around 100 each, so if they wanted to even out the card pools they would have to do another Greyjoy and Martell expansion pack.

After that though i would really like to see an expansion pack for House Arryn and a chapter pack cycle dealing with the Faiths of Westeros

I agree, I think they might come out with new expansions for Greyjoy and Martell. Those two houses might get a house-specific agenda, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some serious support for the Raider theme in Greyjoy, and maybe support for Sand Snakes in Martell.

After the GJ & Martell DXpacs, I hope they get to do some DXpacs that expand previously inadequate themes, like mentioned above:
the Night's Watch for instance with all new the North agendas for NWs...that are more playable than the ones we have now at least.

More Kingsguard tech and more knights outside of Baratheon & neutral would be nice also.

If you're not down with this discussion about Xpac and DX-pac I've got two wordsfor ya

+1 to this, more Queensguard would be nice... FFG could maybe do some Unsullied characters as Queensguard?

This doesn't really fit thematically though... yea, it'd be nice to have some more dragons, but there are only 3 dragons left. Unless Mel manages to hatch one somehow...

Only problem of course, is that if you have any agenda other than Builders/Rangers/Stewards, you suddenly need a whole stack of new cards for the watch, as almost none of the existing ones have any icons on them.

Tourney for the hand had a few House Tyrrell cards in it - made me wonder if it was the start of a build-up to some kind of 'house of thorns' type expansion.

I think we hae enough -we don't need to increase entry cost even higher than current 180$ for all house deluxe packs.

Rest should be done with chapter packs imho.

I agree that Greyjoy and Martell probably need a few more cards to help balance things out.

After that, I would like to see specific historical events of some form. Maybe not a full deluxe expansion, per say, but maybe larger chapter packs dedicated to themes like "The Red Wedding" or "The Battle of the Trident" or something along those lines.

Really? I think they need LESS cards, in my opinion. Too may of their cards are just really strong both early and late game. I think Greyjoy, Lannister and Targaryen need more cards before Martell does now.

I think it has become a consensus that Martell is just not good enough because of their lack of cards on the restricted list and their lack of in house control over challenges, low strength characters. What they really need is better card advantage and a decent, 7 strength army.

+1.

This. I agree. Me too.

Also, Martell currently lacks top tier unique characters. When you look at their available card pool they just don't have any strong 3/4/5 cost game-changers who you can build a coherent deck around.

Guys, guys, you're forgetting the one thing Martell is sorely lacking: events. The ones they have are just so mediocre and boring. They really get the short end of the stick.

Well, they just won the Spanish Regional, having lost just a game in the swiss, making a total result of 12-1, including the top matches.

And we had more than 90 players...

Seems like designers are already on the problem and with new 2 costs noble and more icons removal that 1 will not happen again ;)

Don't forget more cancel. We can't let them get too far behind.

HA! Niiice.

It would be enjoyable if Martell had a few other Martell specific desirable directions to go.
