I am setting up the "'Til Death Do Us Part" scenario (full 5 players) and would like some opinions on the meaning of Objective 1C. The text reads...

"The investigators win if they escape the map....."

I have read though the other objectives with similar requirements (escape). One says 'every investigator' another says 'all investigators 'which seems pretty clear to me. All others are specific about a single investigator escaping.

So my question is, should the 'they' mentioned in 'Til Death 1C be taken as all investigators must escape? Given there is more than one path of escape and reasonably weak monsters aside from a shoggoth it is going to be tough to win if it is read as any investigator escapes. I am inclined to read it as all must escape. I suppose it could be read as only the players that escape win, but that seems to break the team/cooperative theme. I would appreciate opinions on this. I care more about proper balance than the win itself (not that I am not aiming for a full on investigator smackdown).

My interpretation is all players need to get out. I could be wrong but i think the wording would be "if a player escapes" to show a single player escapes to be the winning condition. Besides, your description of the scenario points to all needing to get out.

I have Keeped for 1C, and my immediate interpretation was each and every Investigator who could must escape.

"The investigators win if they escape the map from the Patio or any tile on the Upper Floor."

My question is if they ALL have to escape. Here is why:

"The Keeper wins if the shoggoth kills an investigator while this card is revealed, or if the last Event card is drawn."

We understand that if just ONE investigator dies from the shoggoth, the Keeper is the winner. However, what happens if, before the last Event card is drawn, that all but one investigator escapes, and the last one, let's say, dies because of his "Broken Leg" trauma card (or from a non-shoggoth monster)? Additionally, the errata clarifies that, "Investigators can usually only be eliminated during the finale. If every investigator player is eliminated, the Keeper wins the game," but we know that one or more Investigators DID escape before the one with the broken leg died. Furthermore, the rules book says about investigator elimination, "[The eliminated player] no longer receives an investigator turn, but he still wins if the other investigators win." Because his elimination enables him to still win in the event that the others win, can he enable them to win even though they were counting on him escaping?

So who wins then? The bold question above does not fulfill the Keeper's win conditions, nor does it fulfill the investigators' win conditions. Who wins?

Point being, 1C probably should be errataed to state: "All investigators win if they escape the map from the Patio or any tile on the Upper Floor." We know it is unlikely to mean one or more because the likelihood of escape with multiple players is too high.

My interpretation of that situation is that no-one wins.

Roxysteve is right. In this situation neither the keepr, nor the investigators can win the game. The rules tell that this situation may occur sometimes if both the conditions are not satisfied.
