I'm starting my first campaign soon for DH, and I was curious how much any other GMs have planned for an evening's RP? Obviously this depends a lot on the style of the players, but I was curious how much you fleshed out for a single session. This is assuming you're not using a published adventure. Thanks!
Length of Missions
I have collected a large number of scenarios, not just offical DH ones... but as for fleshing out missions, I have an idea of how far I want them to progress, and I just make sure they don't get to far ahead. To do this, I propose sub-plots as a 'speed-bump' to slow them down, something of little actual signifiance, but will have them distracted and/or thinking its a bigger issue than it is to get them to spend time on that.
I don't worry if they don't get as far as I would like, thats not a problem at all.
Depends...
... If your running the demo scenario (shattered hope), you can pump that out in an afternoon no problem. If your doing the start-off of a campaign you may want the first session to run longer then the followups. I know for an end-game scenario to a long campaign I like to dedicate a day to it. It usually maps out like this:
Intro Scenario= 5-6 hours
Middle Scenarios (aprox 12)= 4-5 hours
End-Game Scenario= 10-12 hours (start at noon, end at midnight, with a few breaks here and there for socializing, eating, cleaning up apartment after ourselves, and giving my gf some attention so she doesnt ***** about me being a geek in our place for twelve hours straight )
Well, I never keep to thinking how far my guys would get. We generally play 7 hours weekly (Friday Nights) and sometimes they've simply spent all 7 hours doing next to nothing, or they completely blitzkrieg and finish the scenario outright.
