Battlefleet Koronus Ground Battle System in The Frozen Reaches, or how be consumed by GMing

Hi, first time visiting this forum.

I warn you that this is a very difficult cuestion, so it will report 1000 Achievement Points and 1-4 Profit Factor if answered gran_risa.gif . And I will post my houserules in exchange

I'm working really hard in a giga-mission for my Deathwatch players using The Frozen Reaches adventure, using Chaos instead of Orks as attackers. And in the part of the siege, I'm a bit bottlenecked.

With rules as written, every unit, no matter it's magnitude, does 4d10+Power damage to the Unit Strentgh. But I'm going to field units with 5 Unit Strenght... so they got one-shoted and are unable to resist for more than a turn (4 hours) against anything. Also, they would do insane amounts of damage, since 50 arbitres can kill 100 guardsmen/3 Leman Russ Tanks/1 Fighter (after being eliminated)

So, I would like to houserule those 4d10 for free, for example with a rule like the one from Hordes of Deathwatch and Black Crusade: +1d10 per 10 points of Magnitude up to +2d10(this is as written in Deathwatch and in a PC combat perspective) Also, giving more importance to the troops experience.

I'm actually working on it, but any idea will be appreciated

This is the sore spot for the unit combat. I think the best way to do it is to come up with a damage system based of numbers and tech level. I don't really want to hammer something out though.
