Plasma Pistols

By Spehktre, in Black Crusade

Anyone else find it odd that a Legion Plasma Pistol has less range (30) than a standard Plasma Pistol(40)?

Legion Plasma Pistols are an older mark than the standard used today. They had less effective magnetic stabilization chambers, which led to Plasma dispersal at a much greater rate once it left the barrel. At least thats what I tell my players.

Fluff-wise, the legion weapons are older marks, and had a knack for exploding in your face. Maybe this is their way of handling that? I dunno.

I suspect that 40m on the regular plasma pistol is a typo. It's been 30m in every version afaik.

I don't know if by fluff, that's accurate, it's a good answer anyway,

but...generally, in W40K, older is better, so it must be a typo. Legion Plasma Pistol should have 40m or even more. By the previous fluff, of course

It looks like the ranges were reversed. The Legion Plasma gun has a 10m longer range than it's smaller cousin.

For what it's worth, the stats of the Legion Plasma Pistol are exactly the same as Astartes Plasma Pistols from the alternate DW weapon rules in the errata. So perhaps the greater range of the human plasma pistol in BC is the mistake here.
