I've read the rules for targeters in IH, but... what do they actually look like? Are they bulky sights? And are they compatible with other sight upgrades?
Also, I'm a bit confused about what they can be fitted to: are they for heavy weapons only?

In the tabletop game, they are depicted as "cameras" mounted on a Stormtrooper's backpack (looking over his shoulder) or on their helmet. In DH , though, I think they are supposed to be mounted on the weapon itsself, and would thus take up the "slot" for any other type of gunsight.
i think they are heavily modified scopes with a built in targeting system, that tries to automatically calculate the targets speed, the wind speed, gravitation and so forth and tells you where to shoot to hit the target. with a second crosshair.
it really depends on who is building the targeter, afterall, the mechanicus may build a targeter as an optic addtition to a target that adds into his eye, and therefore he couldn't use any other sight as he is busy reading new input from bionics, also the stormtrooper camera causes the gun to become integrated into a system and any other sight would interfere with the gun itself,
really the look of a targeter is up to the GM, but you could do it really anyway you wanted to have it fit your character..
Instead of making a new thread i`ll post my question concerning targeters here:
a targeter gives +10 to BS (Errata vs. 3.0). the question is: does it count as a sight? to me this would make targeters useless, since a holo visor or red dot gives the same benefit for a lesser amount and less weight. and two sights cannot be combined...

Yes they count as a sight, the only difference (Per Errata 3) is that the +10 bonus to BS can be applied to all shooting including SA and FS fire modes, where as the red dot only effects Single shot firing (plus of course the the red dot is still visible to other people using Holo Visors). This emidiately makes the targets more disirable.
