Summer Reserves as character

By Newbiek, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

1. What happend when someone attach Milk of the Poppy on the Summer Reserves (or Winter Reserves and other Reinforcements)?

Has "Summer Reserves" any textbox?

2. If "Summer Reserves" leave game, leave it as character or event? (go to dead pile, or discard pile)

3. If "Summer Reserves" go to deadpile, is in deadpile considered as character or event? (effect of Silent Sisters )

4. Has "Summer Reserves" printed STR?

Excuse me, my English. Thank you for answers.

1. I don't know the answer to this one, although I suspect it would cause it to be discarded.

2. One of the players in my gaming group assured me that it went to the discard pile and he explained somesuch reasoning or other. I don't recall the exact details, but it sounded convincing :)

3. It's an event because it's text is only active whilst it's in play, and it's only it's text that makes it a character. Cards in the dead/discard piles aren't in play.

4. No it doesn't, I do know this much for certain :)

"Because that's what the FAQ rules says to do" is, indeed, pretty convincing. gui%C3%B1o.gif

OK, thank you. Last question. What will be blanked on the Summer Reserves?

Nothing? Deadly?

Nothing? Deadly?

Short answer: Nothing (that matters).

Slightly longer answer: Technically, the text that is physically printed on the event card is blanked (excluding the Reinforcements trait, if the blanking is done by Milk of the Poppy. Other cards, like Nightmares, will blank that too).

The fact that the text is blanked has no impact on the game whatsoever, though. The effect is already resolved and done with.

The properties of the event-as-character ( Army trait, 4 STR, the icons, Deadly) are gained, not printed, so they are not affected by blanking effects.

Note that icons and STR (as well as title, house affiliation, uniqueness and crests) aren't part of a card's text box and so aren't concerned by blanking effects. They can be affected by other card effects (though I know of no effects that can make a card unique or non unique, nor any effect that removes a house affiliation).
