I'm not sure what your point is.
Dead Marshes Question/Errata
Yeah, that is pretty clear.
Good one?

Thanks for the unsolicited advice about what kind of decks other people should be playing though, and how they should play them, in a post about how to deal with a rules oddity not directly addressed by the quest card.
Trying to work through Dead Marshes for the first time and come across this. Superb. Didn't even get a like. Shame on you all! 😀

Well we are almost 2 years late to the party, but to be fair seeing this for the first time, it seems like Mandroid started a rabbit trail, Duke answered it then Mandroid tried to chastise for starting a rabbit trail.
On topic (and years late to the discussion) it doesn't seem that odd to me. You complete stage 2B, do an escape test and draw 0 cards since there are no resources on out-of-play Gollum. Since this results in a failed capture you reset to 1B. The treachery cards that trigger escape tests to me thematically seem like situations where if the party is not careful the enemy becomes more aware of where the party is and what it is doing, as I think most (if not all) of the treachery escape tests raise your party's threat if you fail.
Now even though Duke did flex a little bit (trying to be neutral buddy, gotta bust your chops a bit!) I do have to agree with the point that the quest is not easier if you let Gollum shuffle back into the encounter deck. You open yourself up to a whole world of hurt the longer you let this quest go on! You might want to let it happen and get yourself better setup for capture checks later but I do think in doing so you are making the quest harder than it needs to be. The joy of this game is if that's what you want to do then by all means go ahead and do it, but in a game where some quests have multiple ways to get the job done I think you'll have a hard time convincing most that prolonging this quest is the best way to do it. The key needs to be there is no judgment in that, you do what you want, I do what I want and we all have fun. That's the real joy of this game.
Interesting discussion, perhaps a minor lament that this never got "officially" resolved and thanks for reviving it or else I might not have come across it.
