I'll give you a link to www.dakkadakka.com It is a very good wargaming community, with main focus on the 40k table top game. In the "News and rumors" forum you will find that people post links whenever any figure-making company releases new sets. Follow those links to find producers that have models you like.
Reaper has a lot of minis that work in 40k with no converting, especially in their Chronoscope line.
But I make most of my minis from GW multi-part plastics. If you have several frames to harvest bits from, you can put togeather some good, distinctive figures. Don't overlook their fantasy line, either: the Bertonnian Footmen and Empire Militia, when mixed with parts from the Cadian and Catachan sprues, can produce some good Imperial characters.
Also, watch for Necromunda lots on eBay. Orlocks, Eshers, Van Saars, Delaques, and Redemptionists make perfect DH characters, while Kawdors are good for Chaos cultists, and Goliaths make good Heavies. Just watch out for lots loaded up with Juves- not very useful...
