It sounds like there is a new AH Mythos card available with the new Dance of the Damned novel. Hopefully more details will appear soon.
New promo mythos card
I was wondering if there'd be a promo. But I never would have guessed a Mythos card.
Well, I'm definitely getting it now, rather than "probably." I won't be able to read it for a while though... currently reading Color out of Time and then need to read Ghouls along the Miskatonic.
Yep, a Mythos card is by far more appealing than an Ally, simply because is much easier to incorporate properly into any game.
But I'd really stop seeing new Arkham components used to promote books. I won't pay 15$ for a Mythos card
Any intel on it's effect?
Well, it's not $15 for a Mythos card. It's $15 for a card AND A BOOK. I'm excited to read these books.
As a side note, I've noticed that both Dance of the Damned and Ghouls of the Miskatonic liberally incorporate investigators from the Kingsport expansion. It was an odd choice, as not every Arkham owner will necessarily know about these characters—not to mention that Kingsport is the least popular expansion. Maybe this was a coincidence, or maybe it was deliberate, since the players will be less likely to associate them with their well-known and played characters that they've already constructed a mental image of.
The only reason I'm buying these books is for the "free" cards. I didn't think much of Ghouls as a novel (although others have enjoyed it) and if there were no more cards would happily give the rest of the tie in books a miss. However I do like to have all the possible game components, so I'll keep buying them for the promos.

Yep, I'm glad for you, but unfortunately I don't think this is true for everyone. If the book were such an astonishing piece of literature (or narrative), there wouldn't be any need to promote them by using special Mythos or Ally cards. They are entertaining books expressively written for a certain audience (and probably poorly written, as almost every book written just to present a narrative involving certain characters - look at what they did with Dragonlance), and the appetizer for those is something that can be appealing for AH players. Which basically it's a kind of commercial practice I definitely hate.
As for me, I won't pay 1$ for any of these books. So, for me it's 15$ for a Mythos Card. Not saying I'm right, it's just the way I see this. And I think there are other people buying them just for the extra cards
Well, Since these novels are written to such a very narrow audience, they practically do need a gimmick in order to turn a profit. That's the way it is, sadly. Lack of a gimmick could very well have meant no profitable outlet for this author's idea.
It's not fair for me to draw a parallel between these novels and fan-made materials, because none of us are professional custom-content creators; these guys are professional writers. But imagine if nobody ever created custom content because they didn't feel like there would be enough demand.
I don't expect these novels to rock the literary world, but if I enjoy the first novels of each series enough I'll get the subsequent ones even when there is no promo.
Imagine if I did this. 1 month waiting for the book, week~ to send a promo and recive a confirmation, and another month to wait for the card
I know you're in Europe, so it's a bit of a different situation, but my promo card arrived sometime this week (the book says 6–8 weeks), which meant it only took about one to two weeks to get here, for a total of about two weeks between pressing "purchase" on amazon.com and having the card in my hands.
Had I checked the mail on my way out the door yesterday, I would have had him for yesterday's game (but only for showing off—Chapter 4 does not use him).

Ghouls only has Rex Murphy from Kingsport, and like 4 from Dunwich, and 1 from Innsmouth. I'm not sure it makes a difference what expansions they come from as far as obscurity goes.

Book took 3 days to arrive from Amazon UK and promo arrived in under 2 weeks (US to UK).
It's a nice card, but another small box would be better value than drip feeding us single cards this way.
I know I could just not buy them, but as I can't resist - I'm still going to and then moan at the inconvenience.

And how's this card? Can you supply us with some extra details?

I should have clarified - I was referring to getting the Ghouls Ally card, I haven't got the Mythos card yet.

Uops! Sorry Shub, I didn't get it!

not really - I live in Berlin and received my Grayson within 2 weeks of sending the form off.
As for the promo itself I am happy to sponsor the author and receive new components for my favourite game, being a writer myself I really do get the need to eat, drink and sleep warm. I dont expect much from the novels. just a way to dip into AH while on the tube during dark and freezing winter mornings and nights. Here in Germany though there is no IMO service so unless you got yourself a check book you are kinda screwed.

You can just buy some $ and post the notes - it's a lot cheaper than buying a money order , that's how I did it.
Being normally a pretty obsessive completist about this stuff (and kind of picky about what I read--so many books, so little time), Julia's argument definitely resonates with me, but I guess I see the promo cards as basically being like the promo AOs. I mean, I'd love to have gotten an original Daoloth, but not enough to pay for plane tickets.
Granted, it's harder to print out a mythos card or ally at home, but if I really wanted, I guess could use one of the unrevised Dark Pharaoh cards as a proxy or something.

That's a great idea. I read Ghouls of the Miskatonic and decided any upcoming FFG novels are not worth my crowded reading time as I have too many other books to read.
I use sleeves, so I can just slip a printed piece of paper into the sleeve in front of an unused DP card.

Yeah, it's the same for me. Sleeving helps a lot :-) Especially because I use for Mythos sleeves with the "backside" green, so I'd no't be able to say if it's home printed or not until I turn it face up
Here's a look at the card: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=2810 It's a "starting rumor." Interesting.
Anyone want to take a stab at the missing text?
Here's what I've got... The only real question is the (????) part. What do you think it is?? An Elder Sign, maybe? 5 Clues??
-----------------------------------------------------
Do not shuffle this card into the mythos deck. At the start of the game, in addition to normal setup rules, put this card in play.
Ongoing Effect: Each time an investigator spends a Clue token on a skill check, place the token on this card. Each time a Headline mythos card is resolved, place a Clue token on this card.
Pass: During the Upkeep Phase if an investigator is Blessed and has (????) the first player may immediately close an open gate at any unstable location, take the gate marker as a trophy, and place an elder sign token on that location. Then, return this card to the box.
Fail: During the Upkeep Phase if there are 10 or more Clue tokens on this card all investigators are Cursed . Any investigators already Cursed are instead devoured . Then, return this card to the box.
Based on the size of the space, it can't be "an Elder Sign." It's probably either "X clues" (X is single digit) or "an ally," or "X allies".
Well, I don't know about that... I wouldn't think that "close an" could fit between "immediately" and "open gate," but I can't imagine what else would go there. You might be right about an ally, though.
