Toad..Toad..Toad..Toad..

By BanthaFodder, in Talisman

So I thought I would quickly share with you a summary of my luck in the first game I played against my brother for about 25 years or so.

As it had been such a long time we played the basic game but with dungeon, reaper and frostmarch (even though I have all expansions)

We stuck with CoC ending though and no Quests. Limited setup time meant we wanted to get straight in and rely on our memory on how to play.

Disclaimer: Sorry about not remembering names of cards

I drew Leprechaun. Not a good start.

My first move drew a spirit of Craft 2 that beat me and made me miss a turn.

Before my next go, Bro2 drew Dark Denziens (?) that meant we had to draw dungeon cards. I moved to Ruins and drew something with Craft 8 and another with Craft 6.

I think my next go I got to the woods and picked up 3 gold but then the card I drew was a Monster that took another life off me.

I can't remember now how I lost the last life, there was too much laughing going on but yes on my next turn I lost my final life.

5 turns (one of which was missed)

My replacement character was the Merchant. Did reasonable for a few rounds and picked up some things.

Bro2 helped out again by drawing something that removed all Fate from all characters. Bye Bye 5 fate.

Then in a space 2 away from the City I drew Transmographer (?) Anyway - rolled a 1. Toad.

Hilarity ensued. When it was my next turn, the spaces away from the City were death - strong monsters so I moved towards the city.

Next turn I could go back to Transmographer or to the City. City gave me a better chance, only a 1 would make me a Toa.... 1... 3 more turns.

same situation again 2 turns later... surely I would not roll a..... 1 .... 3 more turns as a toad.... Luckily after this time the Transmographer got destroyed and I could escape.

9 turns as a toad.

I managed to catch up a bit and after a while Bro1 (who was getting pretty strong with objects/followers) was in the middle region and I had to slow him down or stop him.

There was a card that allowed me to teleport anywhere and then moved on. I had got an offer of Telport from the Tavern so I teleported to there, then teleported up into the middle region and attacked Bro1. Casting my Toadify spell. Mwhahahahaha. See how you like it !!

He did indeed get turned into a toad and had to drop all his stuff making him easy pickings until Bro2 cast something like Hydra Spell where basically he said the same spell was cast on me.... guess what... toad again. So the pair of us sat there, both toads, a huge pile of objects/gold/followers.

12 turns as a toad, 9 in a row. Eventually the Merchant was killed off with a dice with death against the Reaper.

I got the Rogue, quickly grabbed 3 extra strength and went to rush through the dungeon as my last hope.

Bro2 had picked up all the goodies but Bro1 had another Toadify spell and used the same tactic as I had done before. This time there was no counter.

He went to the middle and breased through it with only 9 strength. (Werewolf of Str 3 I ask you!) and I was left 4 spaces short of the Lord of Darkness

when the Command Spell finally did for me.

Great fun, never seen so much toading. Lots of interesting new cards from what we used to play with (2nd edition)

Hehe, nice. Did you play Talisman or Toadisman? ;)

Awesome post!! Everyone must fear becoming the toad....or they are a fool! Ha Ha...I think they should come up with a Toad Master - swamp expansion or a Toad Master alternate ending!! If they had one you would have won, since you had truly become the King of the Toads!! partido_risa.gif

That would be a cool ending. gran_risa.gif

Maybe that we also get different toad figures who have different statistics

Toad master rolls a die, and depending on the number that you roll, you change in a different toad.

Well tonight we had a rematch.

I had the Knight, vs Dark Cultist and Wizard.

I must say the 1 fate and forced into being good was a bit of a disadvantage. We did add the highlands and alternative endings this time.

Sadly there were no toadings and only the Dark Cultist died ( after drawing pestilence and two spirits on Hidden Valley to lose 2 lives)

The reaper only reaped once in the whole game.

We also tried a house rule that you only get a trophy if you roll so if you could choose to not use objects/followers to give you only a +5 advantage

Which meant a 1vs6 result meant a standoff. Only one instance where that happened.

I hung out in the Highlands a bit but the only useful thing I got were Enemies Str 4/5 that allowed me to build up after a very slow start.

I had picked up the Warhorse which made taking on spirits a challenge as it risked losing him.

Made a break for it with Str 9 + Magic Potion and a total of 15 in Battle with sword, warhorse and colossus as well as 6 lives.

Used potion in crypt and rolled 11 so squeaked through.I had no fate at all so Dicing with death was real lottery and cost 3 lives.

Slaughtered a werewolf Str 2

So drum roll for the ending...... Eagle King!

Str12 4 lives, I am favourite...... What's this? Lose or standoff and you get dropped in Crags. Whaaaattttttt?.....

You can guess what happened first turn. At that point it was about 12:30am so been playing 4 hours. We gave up and called it a draw.
