Mark Harrigan's Delay Ability

By Esto, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Can Mark Harrigan perform these 2 Other World actions & what happens if he does either one:

1) The mi-go offer to take your brain on a journey to the far reaches of space.... but your body will have to stay here. If you accept, gain 3 clue tokens but you are delayed.

2) You find a sheltered area, a veritable oasis in this strange place. You take the opportunity to rest. If you do, you are delayed and gain 1 Sanity and 1 Stamina.

These are not hypothetical questions but have actually arisen in a game.

He's ignoring all delaying effects, no matter what's flavor text saying.

Being delayed isn't a cost to receive these rewards, it's a penalty. Mark Harrigan doesn't suffer from this penalty—and he's not forbidden from participating just because he's unaffected by the penalty.

Thank you, Tibs & MyNeighbor Trololo. That's really good news for my adventure!

to be fair, Mark Harrigan rests really quickly. he's known for that, among other amazing feats!

Have you heard about the maze he left at once when all others spent a whole turn on it!? :)

He's also pretty immune to Gladys Pickman's jibber jabber

Happy birthday, Taurmindo!

"My name is Mark Harrigan, and I don't have time for this!! " *click-fwooosh*

I always wondered what happens when Harrigan does that.

"Would you like me to tell you a story d-"

"Save it granny! I'm outta here!" ::door slams::

mi-go hunter: I'd say the real question is why everyone doesn't do that. They are trying to save the world, after all....

but she's so old and fragile, you can't just hurt her feelings..

what if you actually save the world, then you might have ignored her for nothing!
or worse, if you still fail to save the world, you ignored her for less than nothing!

one of my personal favorites is the Artist Colony encounter when you're offered $2 to be delayed and be painted. "you're what i need for my painting! sit with me for a while!" .. Mark Harrigan promptly replies "draw me like one of your stick figures", takes $2 and leaves.

I like to think of him as some sort of wunderkind whose god-like abilities are meted out purely by never having enough time.

"Paint my picture huh? I don't have time for this, but okay make it quick"

Minutes later..

"what is taking so long?? I don't have time for this!! "

Snatches up the paintbrush and immediately paints an impressive image of himself in repose. The artist is brought to his knees by the use of colour and form.

".. Annd done- Four minutes? Who has the time to waste?! "

Snatches the $2 and sprints off

Only a crazy man wouldn't listen to poor old granny. Why, did she ever tell you about the time she got out Blackie, her cat, from a tree? Oh, he was such a dear sweet thing. And he loved eating nutmeg pies. Why, did you know that nutmeg isn't really a nut. That's what I heard long ago. All sort of things aren't named right anymore. Back when I was a young girl the world made more sense because things were better then.
