A few greyjoy questions: Ice Fishermam Iron Cliffs

By gimlicolby, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I am at work and have only a few percious moments. I cant open up the faq or the rules....I have a couple questions:

Ice Fisherman: Can you use his ability to take a gold after my opponent acquires his gold but before he plays a card during the marshalling phase?

Iron Cliffs: Place 2 gold coins when you play Iron Clffs....Response: discard 1 gold coin to svae a greyjo character...

Can I use the gold to pay for cards marshalling? Or refugees in dominace? Does the gold count towards dominace?

Sorry for these basic questions but any help will be appreciated greatly.

1. If you're the First Player you can take one gold right away since the first action is yours. If your opponent is the First Player you must wait until he's taken his/her first action (which might not be playing a card).

2. No, you may only use that gold via effects that allow you to do so. In this case you may only use that gold to save a Greyjoy character by using the Cliffs' effect.

I do not think you are right on # 1. If you are the first player, your opponent will not have counted his income yet so there is nothing to steal. I think the first chance to use Ice Fishermen effectively is after the opposing player makes his first move during marshaling. At that point he will have gold available, and it will be your turn to act. The only way he can avoid it is if he spends all his gold on his first action.

I do agree with # 2. OP, look at this card to see the distinction. This card also uses 'gold tokens' but expressly states that they may also be used for other things.

Thanks....I thought that about the iron cliffs.

Ok with Ice Fishermen...If my opponent uses a location to reduce the cost of a character....can I as a reaction before the character is played...during the same window as the trigger of location,....use ice fishermens ability?

SOrry for the noobness questions.....just getting all the rules under standing.....

thanks

no, their ability is a marshaling action, not a response.

If you are the First Player, you get the first action after your opponent becomes the active player and counts income.

The ability is a marshalling action, but so is using the ability of a reducer and so is playing a card. Since player actions always alternate, you have the opportunity to use Ice Fisherman after your opponent uses the reducer, but before he does his next action (like playing a card).

As previously said: no. The rules say you pay for playing cards with gold in your gold pool. Gold on a card is not in your gold pool.

ah that is a really good point. i never really considered that situation (where the 'first' player could jump in and make an action before the 'active' player). i guess i just never thought about it like that. good call!

Thanks Saturnine....that makes sense! I do appreciate the responses.
