A New Player's Request

By Walk, in Tannhauser

Greetings, all. I am seriously considering purchasing this game, and I have been idly exploring the support section. I am somewhat confused by the classification of the "Classic" Support page. I know the rules have been revised somewhat, but is there a reason FFG leaves the old page separate? Can the material on it (sans the unrevised rules, naturally) still be used in a "revised" game?

The Revised rules are quite different from the original, so the "Classic" material would not be compatible with the new. A lot of the "Classic" material has been adapted to the Revised version, but is included in the rulebooks or expansions... which is great since home-printed tokens are not as cool as the real thing! Please let us know if you have any other questions! Also, if you'd like to learn more about the game before you make your decision, Miah's blog is a great resource. Click here for his "How To" articles, and bookmark his page in case you decide to buy the game because he has a lot of other great material on his site!

So by classic material, do you mean just the unrevised rules, or certain expansions as well? If so, which expansions?

Hi,

FFG adapted all of the "classic material" in the revised rulebook (the corebox, operation novgorod, single packs: yula, gorgej, wolf and ramirez). All of the rulebooks from the unrevised material is not needed anymore.

OK...so would one still need to buy those expansions in order to use their content, or is it effectively all bundled with the revised base game?

The basic game contains the new rulebook. This rulebook covers the rules for the basic game, the Novgorod expansion and the individual characters of Wolf, Yula, Gorgei and Ramirez. You would still need to purchase the Novgorod expansion if you wished to use the new map that came with it or the Matriarchy, which was the expansion faction in it. Also the individual characters would need to be purchased if you wanted to play them. The only thing the new rulebook replaces is the old rulebooks that came with the above listed products.

Excellent, excellent. Thanks for all the help, everyone. I will begin looking towards a purchase as soon as my wallet recovers from all of the various other FFG products I've been purchasing.

Hope you´ll enjoy the game as does it some of my friends and I ... and the guys here :-)

As far as I know there are still some versions of the basic game still containing the old rulebook. Depends on when the version is sold, right?
