Hello!

Card below for refernce:

My question is regarding the E Commit: Is the momentum gain reliant on your opponent discarding 1 momentum? ie, if my opponent has no momentum to discard, do I still get to add the top card of my deck to my momentum?

Thanks for the help.

yes, it's reliant on the opp gaining.

The way i see it, yes your opponent need to discard a momentum for you to THEN add a card to yours.

same as saying " your opponent unlock the locked door. Then you enter the door." If your opponent cannot unlock it, you cannot enter.

EDIT : okay Voldomar, by a minute you win this one...

I disagree. The part in the TR about and then etc. says if the ability contains "and then" or ". Then,". It is not ambiguous here.

It's very nitpicky, but, Such a Popular Person's enhance doesn't have the comma that the TR explicity says is necessary for the effect to be reliant on the prior text happening.

It'll still work if the opponent has no momentum.

Isn't this just one of those "do as much as you can" kind of effects? If so, I think you should still get the momentum.

I'm referring to abilities like Visions of Destiny. If I only have 2 cards left in my deck and it asks me to look at the top 4, I only get to look at the 2 available.

Therefore, with SaPP, if my opponent has no momentum, I would discard none. Then I would still add the top card of my deck to my momentum.

And about the comma? I think the full stop in the ability is a similar thing in this case.

Son, the "And then" clause part of the TR also mentions the case of an ability saying "Then, ".

So for example,

"E: Discard 1 card and then draw 1 card."

If you have no hand, you can't discard 1 card. "And then" says that if you didn't do the first part, you cannot proceed to the second part, so you won't draw.

"E: Discard 1 card. Then, draw 1 card."

Again, per the TR, the "Then," means you have to satisfy the first part before you can do the second part.

"E: Discard 1 card. Draw 1 card."

"E: Discard 1 card then draw 1 card."

"E: Discard 1 card. Then draw 1 card."

All of these cases fall under "do as much as you can" so you will draw 1 card no matter what off those 3 examples.

Ah, I get it now. SaPP doesn't have "and", so it does work.
