Theorizing About Champions (in Tourney CPs)

By lahomen, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

One of my favorite things to do is to imagine what cards will come out in future chapter packs. The current CP series has me more excited than usual, because it focuses unique characters that should be more predictable than scrubby non-uniques. Here is my attempt to guess what "champions" we will see in this series (other than those already spoiled). I'm also thinking/hoping that each house will get a unique weapon, based on the first CP.

Baratheon:

Robert Baratheon (I think a non-renown, beast mode Melee Robert would be awesome. Easier to balance with so many other good Bobs).

Brienne of Tarth (performed well in the melee)

Oathkeeper

Greyjoy:

Asha (good with an axe)

Theon (good with a bow)

Lannister:

Bronn

The Hound (did well in the joust)

Ser Garlan Tyrell

Widow's Wail

Martell:

Arianne (good at scheming)

Doran (a champion at scheming)

Quentyn Martell (because we haven't seen him yet)

Anders Yronwood (one of the most important Lords)

Stark:

The Greatjon

Ice

Targ:

Strong Belwas (background in pit fighting IIRC)

Oznak zo Pahl (had a CCG version)

Wasn't there a Valyrian steel sword in the Targ history books that caused a rebellion?

Brienne with Rainbow guard trait and joust skill.

Jon Snow as Lord Commander

I am really hoping to see new versions of some of the main characters that have relatively weak cards at this point. Strong Belwas and Doran were the first ones to come to mind.

There was "Blackfyre", given to Daemon Blackfyre, the bastard prince of king Aegon IV. Blackfyre was the Ancestral weapon of House Targaryen, and the true blood prince got real pissed that it was given to his bastard brother. When Daemon died his brother Bittersteel took it with him across the Narrow sea.

There was also "Dark Sister", the Valyrian blade of Visenya, sister of Aegon the Conqueror. That was last owned by Bloodraven, a.k.a Brynden Rivers the brother of Daemon Blackfyre (also a bastard son of Aegon IV)

Jorah Mormont also won an important tournament.

i just want some support for existing trait themes, Kingsguard, Rainbow Guard, Queensguard, House Dayne, Nights Watch, or Quartheen

out of Champions though in terms of Nedlyness we should get a new Rheagar Targaryen, The Mystery Knight, and Jorah Morment

I believe technically we already have Blackfyre; I assume that's what Aegon's Blade is.

I support all of these, with the possible exception of another Robert. There's already four Roberts in the card pool, and most of them are already fantastic cards. I'd rather see a second or third version of a character with poor representation; Strong Belwas is an excellent example, I'd also love to see another Jorah, though his existing card is pretty incredible already.

I'd definitely like to see more weapons. Maybe each house can get a Valyrian steel weapon this cycle. Greyjoy's already got Nightfall. Stark can get a new Ice, Lannister can get Widow's Wail or Brightroar (or we could get a multi-affiliated Oathkeeper). Baratheon can get King Robert's Hammer (which is not Valyrian steel, but is the most famous weapon I associate with them; though it'd need another name or it causes weird problems with the existing card for the ship). Targ's got Blackfyre or Dark Sister. Not sure what Martell has, other than maybe a new Dawn; does House Martell have an ancestral weapon?

The only Valyrian Steel weapons with names in the books are:

Ice - The sword of house Stark. Taken by the Lannister's and reforged into...

Widow's Wail - Made from part of Ice

Oathkeeper - Also made from Ice

Heart's Bane - The sword of House Tarly

Longclaw - The sword of House Mormont, now in Jon Snow's hands

Lady Forlorn - Sword of house Corbray (sworn to house Arryn)

Red rain - Sword of House Drumm (sworn to Greyjoy)

Nightfall - Sword of House Harlow (sworn to Greyjoy)

Bright Roar - Ancestrial weapon of house Lannister - Lost beyond the narrow Sea

and Blackfyre and Dark sister.

On a side note. Dawn is actually made of meteoric iron not Valyrian steel. It was forged from the falling star that impacted Dorne near current Starfall.

I've seen people claim this before- really never understood it myself- what's so great about him? I can see the positives of a 3-icon, cost 2, strength 3 character, but his -1 strength for all your characters seems to be a massive drawback. Is there some clever trick I'm missing? or is it just the basic cost that's good?

Well, 2 gold for a STR 3 tricon with Stealth is *always* good. The drawback, OTOH, can hurt you badly (for example if your opponent manages to burn him on a TftN turn), but most of the time, it won't.

If you want to see more tournament champions, expect another Robert. He won the trident and that was the most important tournament of all.

Actually, Melee skill I assume :)

This is only propaganda. She was thinking of Jaime, and we've got him already.

Hmm when Catelyn arrives to talk with Renly and Brienne wins tourney was that single combat or meele ? I don't remember honestly.

Also she was skilled enough to stand against Jaimie so she certainly was good in single combat.

That was definitely a melee. She and the KoF were the last 2 remaining fighters.

Jaime, who has just spend a lot of time in Tully prison. It wasn'e really a fair fight ;)

I think we're going to see a new Prince Doran and a new Victarian this cycle.

Okay these boards suck. I tried to post a picture from the Game of Thrones Second Edition page. There's a picture of the Knight of Flowers, using the new artwork seen on the newest card, along with some new artwork for Victarian and Doran on cards for that game.

didn't she say something like she shuddred to think what would have happened had he not been starved and weak?

I suspect he's a new commission.

Anyways... here he is .

wow, that's pretty ridiculous!

As for Victarion, it looks like they are using the art from Iron Throne Edition ( javascript:void(0);/*1320346427873*/

Yeah, I'd love to see a even a straight-up reprint of ITE Victarion... and he's even better with Moment of Glory .
