Encounter/Creature Playsheets?

By Sturn, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I've been making notes on an encounter/monster sheet but was wondering if someone had done something along these lines already, either in a supplement or as a fan.

What do I mean? I have the Creature Vault cards and plan to use them. I was envisioning a playmat of sorts I could print out to assist with organizing and keeping track of multiple monsters during an encounter. I don't mean the one page sheets found in Core or in SE. I would have places on one sheet of paper to lay perhaps 3 different monster cards. Around the card would be places for creature notes, a list of common cards to use (by name I think, not the actual card printed on them), keeping tracking of ACE used, keeping track of wounds, and a morale tracker at the bottom. If there is room I would have spots for general notes on the encounter.

I would print one (or 2 if lots of different monsters) of these out before play to have ready. Perhaps a couple blank ones ready to be used on the spot if needed. Creature cards would go on the sheet with action cards off the sheet and along the top (with an arrows on the sheet pointing towards that creature's cards). I would only use wound cards to denote criticals (place them under the creature card), wounds would be marked in a box near the creature card on the sheet.

I don't have the Creature Guide, does it have something along these lines? I also don't have the GM's Toolkit. Has anyone already done something like this before?

I'm working on an encounter / scenario sheet but it is more similar to one of the One-page sheets I have seen around with a dedicated section for a couple npcs or creatures. Once I finish that, I don't think it would be too much work to create something dedicated to what you are speaking of. It will be awhile but I will see what I can do.

Ok thanks would like to look at anything you do. I think I will start working on something myself, perhaps we both can get ideas from each other?

sounds good, sent you an invite

Might I suggest an additional blank tracker somewhere on the sheet. It would allow the GM to have another tracker at hand for all sorts of other reasons (beat the clock type scenarios, or social combat) without having to assemble all the puzzle fit pieces.

Actually, now that I think about it, it's surprising that FF haven't seen that there's a market for this sort of thing and sold "play-mats" for WFRP. Not that we need'em, and I would be just as likely to use a home-brew mat over a marketed one.

My ugly prototype has 2 blank trackers at the moment. I might label one as a "Morale Tracker" for the creatures, but may just leave both blank.

My current version has spots for 3 Creature cards. More then 3 different Creatures requires a 2nd sheet. I haven't played yet, how many different creature cards might a GM end up using during a single encounter?

Please critque my Encounter Sheet. It is not meant to be colorful, since I like re-printing copies and don't want to waste lost of ink. If someone wanted this for a laminated playmat, someone with graphic skills would want to pretty it up first. You need to look at a card from the Creature Vault for the sheet to make sense.

Are the trackers long enough?

How many Creature cards would a GM typically need during an encounter? My sheet has 3, I figure sometimes I would need 2 copies placed for up to 6 creature cards?

Dude, this is totally perfect! I like that it's plain and in black/white, makes printing much much cheaper.
