Looks like after doing step forward with Barristan FFG now made two steps backwards with Grand Meele
House Targaryen: A Discussion
How do you figure? Ambush owns this card. You knock out their piddling crap with a Threat from the East the round before and then you play this and ambush in additional attackers or defenders (looking at you Horseback Archers!) when they least expect it. And if Selmy is participating burning one low strength guy is a bigger swing than normal because everyone is contributing only a single STR point to the challenge.

Thematically speaking, Targaryen in the books right now is the weakest house.....So they should be the weakest in the game.....but they are getting stronger and that can be shown in the new Ser Selmy......The dude is nuts. He just screws up your opponents combat math.....Im building a deck around him. I see myself wanting my opponent to go first almost everyturn.....just daring them to come at the most honorable kight.
That being said, there are many deficiencys.....My biggest complaint is the lack of saves...I was buiding that targ deck but could find very few save abilities....
Any suggestions on saves for a targ build that focuses heavily on Selmy?
Thanks
If you have space in the deck, you can also play Pentos, which works with Tears of Lys or Unburnt, etc. An easier way to give Selmy intrigue is the Black Steel Link, but then you wouldn't have deadly or protection with Pentos (optional but useful if you're stacking tons of power on Selmy). The Bronze Link would give you attachment recursion (I wouldn't rely on LDC in this type of deck). So in total you'd probably be playing an influence-light Targ deck with 5 chains on the agenda: (1) Bronze Link, (2) Steel Link, (3) Copper Link, (4) Valyrian Steel Link, (5) Tin Link...with the option of adding Black Steel Link. Draw engine would be Valyrian Steel Link, 1-2x Xaro's Home, and probably 1-2x Jhogo + recursion.
In a deck like this based around combo, I would also build in some other combo components, just in case your Selmy combo doesn't go off. For example, consider adding in Street Waifs or other cards that kneel to do things, since you should be able to stand them. (Also, this deck wouldn't be burn intensive, so no need to play Threat from the North, which makes Waifs much more attractive.) If you don't have the influence for Flame-Kissed, consider 2x Dragon Skull, which are great with Shadow Seers anyway.

So the goal is to stand him and use him repeatedly, right? The best way to do this, in my opinion, is to play maesters + Copper Link + High Ground/other standing effects. Note that Selmy doesn't need to be a maester to make this work, but the idea is that you use the Copper Link to make Selmy an "army," then stand him with High Ground.
And it's perfectly thematic, by the way. The new Selmy is an "one man army" after all.
