How far into the series does the game spoil?

By Funkofages2, in Battlestar Galactica

So I have a couple friends just now getting into BSG, but are also itching to get into the board game. How far into the series would they have to watch so that nothing in the game spoils anything? Im thinking a couple episodes into season 2?

Actually I dont think the game really spoils anything. If anything it actually will make you want to watch to see what the game actually draws from.

Have them watch the pilot - anything else is just obscure references that will not ruin anything for them.

I sort of guess that's true, I guess it doesn't spoil any cylon reveals. It might as far as the stuff like delcaring marshall law, which is anciliary.

Also, we were playing a game last night, and Helo became both the president and admiral, to which Helo proclaimed himself the pradmiral. Also, if both Helo and Apollo are in the game, and you lose 1 food, Helo should have the ability to prevent Apollo from eating up the food supplies by saying "Looking good, slim"

Lol! A friend of mine came up with the exact same nickname for having both titles a couple games ago and it has stuck with us ever since as well. That's pretty funny.

Yeah, some of the only big things I can think of that would possibly be ruined if you haven't even seen the miniseries would be the Sympathizer card ruining Sharon's Cylon-ness.

From the game you could potentially deduce:

1. The identities of Two, Five, Six, and Eight (the "you are a cylon" cards). This is the main thing, but they are all revealed rather quickly. The ones that stay hidden longer are not revealed.

2. There are survivors on Caprica ("caprica survivors" crisis card), but it would likely be passed over or associated with the miniseries.

3. Some things about Baltar's political and scientific careers, but there's plenty of misinformation here (various crisis cards and a quorum card and his character card).

You could get some more details, but you would only understand them in their respective episodes, and only things like "yes, the main character will make it out alive" and "This action will go horribly wrong...somehow" such. Furthermore, you would have to have a good memory to get even that much out of it. All of the other stuff is only a spoiler to the first few episodes. Actually, you are likely to get more misinformation from studying the crisis and character cards than spoilers.
