Epic battles

By alquimista, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I have a simple question regarding the epic battles mechanic. As you well know, the text in the cards for the epic battle are as follow:

Epic Battle

<house>only.

Plot: After the dominance phase this round, there is an epic phase during which each player may initiate a single <insert icon> challenge with normal claim. The winner of each challenge may <blablabla rest of the card>

My question is: can they stack?

for example, can you play two epic battles in a single plot and make 2 challenges (one for each epic battle) in the "epic phase" or the text in the card limits the number of challengues you can make to one challengue per epic battle?

Thanks for the time you take in answering my question :)

FAQ to the rescue!

(3.34) Multiple Epic Phases
If multiple epic phases are created in a single round, they are played in the order in which they were created, after the dominance phase and before the standing phase.

During each Epic Phase, each player may initiate a single challenge as per the card text of the corresponding Epic Battle event.

Two Epic Battle events would "stack," but they would do so by creating 2 separate Epic phases in which 1 challenge can be declared in each, not by creating 1 Epic phase in which 2 challenges can be declared.

"Stacking" in this game will always involve resolving each individual effect separately, never combining the card text together into a single new effect. While this may sound like an academic distinction (ie, what's the real difference between drawing 1 card twice and drawing 2 cards once?), it ends up being pretty important because of the overall timing. For example, in your Epic example, there is a huge difference in there being 2 separate phases instead of 1 phase with more challenges. With the "end phase" happening between the 2 Epic phases, things happen like: every player gets 1 challenge before any player gets their second, "until the end of the phase" effects wear off between "epic challenge 1" and "epic challenge 2," and every player gets an additional opportunity to being a card out of Shadows.
