several gameplay questions

By bushaaya, in Talisman Rules Questions

hey guys..
i actually posted this elsewhere, as i did not see there was a rules section, so sorry -:

during the game we've come across some questions.
i'd really love it if some1 could resolve those question for our group..

i cant currently remember all of them, so i'll probably add some more as i remember them - :)

1. the fireball spell. if cast when being gang banged (being attacked by 2 or more creatures at the same time). does it effect only a specific creature out of the bunch, which the player select, or does it effect the whole bunch of attacking creatures?
say i have 9 craft, and the total strength of 3 creatures attacking me is 14. do i need a 5 or above to kill them all, or can i select 1 of the attacking creatures, and kill him with the fireball, thus weakening the bunch, and fighting them separately after that creature is killed?

2. say a character has the walking stick (may add 1 to the result of the movement die roll). does the new changed result count as the final roll result?
for example, if a player rolls 1 for his move and adds 1 to the score in order to move 2, does he still have to roll a die for the reaper afterwords? another example, say the leprechaun has the walking stick (he can teleport in the region if he rolls a 6).. with this item, does it mean that he can roll a 5 or a 6 in order to teleport in the region?

3. do the fireball / finger of death spells count as a combat or not? if i attack a character, cast fireball on it and make it lose a life, does the battle take place normally after that loss of life, or does the loss of life end the battle? same goes for finger of death.

4. lightning bolt spell- since it can be cast at any time, unlike other spells which render a character numb, and must be cast at the beginning of some1's turn.
can this spell be used as a "freeze" spell as well for example, causing a character not to be able to roll a die during a battle / psychic combat? if for example i attack a character, can i cast lightning bolt on that character, so he cannot defend himself, and so i am the only 1 who can roll a die for the fight?

thanks a lot, and cheers! - :)

1. they are counted together so if you have craft 9 and they have a combined strength of 14 then yes you need to roll 5 or more to fireball them.

2. hmm interesting question, I'm uncertain how the wording on the card say, but for leprechaun I would say no it can't make his teleport to trigger more often with walking stick. But It all depends on the wording on the card.

3. Yes the battle/psycic combat takes place after, So if a character have for example 3 lifes you can first trow a finger of death to kill of 2 lives and then kill the last life if you win the battle killing him.

4. No you must cast it before battle/psycic combat, can't cast it during. For example if someone attacks you, you can cast it on him to end his turn meaning that the combat will never take place. You can also cast it on yourself if you draw a enemy you don't want to combat. But it must be cast before the combat on the attacker.

I think I recall a ruling that you Fireball individual Enemies, they only combine in battle, but FB is cast before the battle begins.

Dam is right.

Fireball is used before the attack rolls are made.

Enemies are still separated from each other, and you cast fireball on a single enemy.

Same goes for the Wand of dragonfire(treasure card)

this is actually a big debate that we're having because of the writing on the card.

this is what it says: "After you roll the die for your move, you may add 1 to the score"

what do you think?

Number 2 is no.. The dice throw number is the number without any mods.

Hello,

You've already received most of the answers; however, these are my thoughts and memories about these meaningful game issues.

Fireball is a "before to engage in battle" Spell. If you fight multiple creatures on the same space, you cast the Fireball on one opponent of your choice and then resolve the combat with the remaining Enemies. They band together only when "in combat", i.e. when rolling the die. Note that any rewards triggered by an Enemy killing in combat (i.e. the act of rolling dices and comparing scores) are not dependant on the number of Enemies. For example, you get only one Life if you kill 2 or more Enemies at once with the Runesword.

Any effect that requires a specific result from the die roll is activated only by the pure die result. No bonuses can change this, and if you roll 2 dice you can't use any ability that requires a result from a single die (Leprechaun/Flying Carpet teleport, Troll Regeneration, Reaper, etc...)

As per 1, they're "before to engage". The combat does take place after spellcasting, if there's still someone to fight.

No, it can't be used as a Freeze Spell. If you cast it on a Character that you're attacking, the combat does not take place because the opponent can't fight at all. It's a defensive Spell, save it for when you're attacked or burn it by casting it on some other player at the beginning of his turn, or just when he's gloating about a satisfying draw, that he won't encounter because of Lightning Bolt.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but if you make a search here with "Lightning Bolt" you may find some discussions.
