Refresh & Focus

By Esto, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

If you have 1 item & 1 skill, both of which require all of your focus to refresh during upkeep, what happens?

That you choose which one to refresh, while the other stays exhausted

I guess you could refresh only one. But no sure at all.

Edit : Mmmm, next time, check if there is already an answer. Hopefully, i had right one.

Yep. Refreshing such cards requires you to spend all your Focus while doing so. Thus, at the start of the Upkeep, providing that you didn't adjust your skill sliders, you choose which one to refresh. You refresh it, and by doing so your Focus is completely spent. Thus you don't have Focus to refresh the other one.

@Hugues: did you get the e-mail I dropped you last w-end?

::laughter:: sorry Hugues, didn't get your post while posting my other comment!

Esto: You might already understand this, but the wording of your post made it unclear, so I'll just tell you: remember that you don't necessarily need to spned all your Focus to refresh one of these. If you have two of them (and both are exhausted), you can either refresh one, or you can spend your Focus to move your sliders as normal.

Unfortunately, both the skill & the item require all of the character's focus to refresh. Sorry for the confusion with my wording.

Here's another question: what if the investigator is Wilson? In other words, does "unlimited" trump "all," or is it the other way around?

Wilson Richards was officially changed to read:

"Wilson has 4 focus but does not need to spend focus to move his sliders."

Thus, during Upkeep, he may spend all 4 focus to refresh one of the items, but may still move his sliders.

Ah, alright. So he's like Trish, then; he has a limited amount of Focus, but all it's good for is items that need Focus to refresh. Thanks, Tibs.

Well, the 4 focus of Richards is also helpful in encounter situations. Rare but sometimes an asset.

And Yib-Tst'll.
