"Dragon Decree" What a pain...

By Uvatha, in Talisman Rules Questions

Very late in a game Dragon Decree came up.. This happened with the outer being just two squares untokened and the middle about five with highlands and dungeon having only a few tokens. Now Grillipus was king and his deck was half way empty (counting discarded and deck)..

Now.. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENS?..

There is NO WAY there is enough cards left in his deck to cover all the scales placed. And in what order do you place them? We ended up randomizing it and when we only ended up with events in his deck... Well they can never be placed..

This makes it interesting entering the Dragon Tower (which is what we were playing with) when Grillipus is king :0 hmmmm wow.. Event, Event, oh and a Event how interesting.. So long as no-one kills a Grillipus enemy :) Or they could just hold it as a trophy for good :) .

Is it just me or does Dragon Decree sound like it should just effect the current Dragon Kings dragon tokens not "All"? ethier that or say it only effects Grillipus dragon tokens in every other Region?

DRAGON DECREE - Event
* Draw and place 1 card from the Dragon King's deck faceup on each space in this Region that has a dragon scale (discard any Events without resolving their effect), then discard this card.
* If Grilipus is the Dragon King, this Event affects every Region.

____________

I think i understand your problem

If every space with a token gets a card from the dragon kings deck, then that deck will be quick empy.

If grilipus is king, then more cards is needed from that deck...

What must we do, if there are no cards anymore then, from that specific dragonlord.

Maybe we need a rule that if you draw the dragon token from a empty deck, then you must draw again...

There is a rule, once a deck is all drawn you shuffle and draw again.. But my question is how do you figure out what regions go first. Does Dungeons go before Highlands etc etc. Of course once all cards are gone there is no chance spaces will get new cards all the remaining cards are events :) .

I don't think it really matters what order you do the Regions. You could mix it up by starting with the tokens closest to where you're physically sitting! If you did need an order I'd start with Outer, then Middle, then Dungeon and Highlands (release order!).

I would say that the region where the character is starts first, and then the other boards.

As EvilEdwin says, if a character is on the mainboard, you can starts there first, and after that, you can choose for the dungeon and then the highland, following the release of the boards

Anyway, i think you need a houserule if the deck is empy. Just switch the token on the space with a new drawn token from the pool, so that you can still draw new cards. or draw a new token if the token from that deck is empy, and place it on the space

There is a rule already for a Dragon deck becoming empty, its shuffle discard pile and make it a new deck. The thing is once you used up all the none-event cards all you have left is events and they have to be discarded when drawn, they still count as a draw so the space gets nothing..

There is no need to "draw a new token if the token from that deck is empty". Its just a timing issue "what region goes first".

I know about the rule, but i was just looking for a solution.

but you are right, the events will not be placed on the spaces, and if the deck is reshuffled, the chance is that you will only draw events.

I forgot about that

anyway, i need to try it out first.

If the 6 events card are the only cards left, then you must try not to encounter those dragon tokens.

Each deck has only 56 cards each, so that's not much..

But i see now how that it can become a problem later in the game if you go into the dragon tower.

If the deck is almost empty with only events, then the drawing becomes very boring.

It depends on the game session. I did not play with Dungeon or Highland, only with the main board. The board was never filled with scales, even though the Characters stayed in the Outer Region 99% of the time. I think that with Fire Wizard, Dragon Hunter, Minotaur and Dragon Rider around, the board can't be covered with scales. With less efficient Characters, maybe.

You won't put the entire Grilipus deck on the board and obtain the situation you described. 6 cards are Events, there are 50 cards left and I don't think there will be 50 scales on the board (Outer region: 22 spaces, Middle Region: 16 spaces, Highland and Dungeon: 29 each). The chances of filling the spaces without any Character attempting to claim a scale is really low. At least, it won't be so after they realize that the Dragon Expansion is about getting scales.
