The Breathing Jungle is out

By dboeren1, in CoC General Discussion

I just got a call from the game store that they got The Breathing Jungle in today so I'll be swinging by after work to grab one. No sign of Dunwich Denizens yet, maybe next shipment.

Hopefully we get it here in Finland by next week. :)

Spoilers please!!!

Yes, anyone have a spoiler list yet? :-D

Sexy. Hopefully should get it next week. So far Ancient Relics has been a superb cycle.

Support "Lethargic Miasma", cost 1. Attachment, Curse
Attach to a character. Attached character may not ready. Attached character gains "Action: Pay 1 to drive attached character insane."

Is Vaage Randers (MU) really 3 cost? In the preview it shows him as 4 cost, which makes him sort of meh, but at 3 he may see play.

Monophobia: More Cthulhu+Hastur fu. Nice for decks that want to drive everyone insane. Too bad it does not have the "shuffle back in your deck" text.

Silver Twilight character **** Sharpe (no pun intended) is another trigger-play card that has synergy with Syndicate. His 2 cost trigger with Investigate makes him really good for swiper decks.

Yog got two excellent cards for mill. I was holding off on building a mono-Yog mill deck until previously spoiled Lethargic Miasma came out but Reclaimed Servant totally seals the deal for me. IMO Yog is the biggest winner in this AP.

Reclaimed servant is indeed a wonderful card. Pricey as hell though, but quite fitting for yog recursion/mill. It's a win/win situation either way in the right deck.

I might just remove a single copy each of The Large Man and Flying Polyps to make it fit into Abeyance & Oblivion .

I'm not sure what I would or could remove from the deck to fit Lethargic Miasma in there though. **** nice stall card for the cheapnezz. Maybe the prisms...

Oops, that's a typo on my part w/ Vaage Randers. He is 4 cost, 3 skill. Sorry about that.

Monophobia looks pretty nice, but only for mixed decks so it seems like it may see limited use.

Sharpe looks good, he's a nasty surprise to mess with the story phase.

I agree that Reclaimed Servant looks awesome. Mill opponent more, and help fill your discard you can bring back the cards you want. She is pricy though.

Wasn't impressed with the Syndicate stuff. Yog is very nice. Shub and Silver Twilight look good too.

I forsee the H.O.S.T. card "The Doorway" seeing lots of play in decks soon. Some nasty killer combo potential there.

It's particularly interesting in that it seems to set a new precedent for Disrupt effects: It doesn't require a trigger!

Here's the relevant bit from the FAQ:

Disrupts can be played immediately,
whenever their play requirement is
met
, and their resolution precedes
the resolution of the occurrence that
allowed the disrupt to be triggered.

The Doorway doesn't seem to have any play requirement (which is a bit puzzling, but probably works as intended).

As I already mentioned in the preview 'Lethargic Miasma' will require a clarification, since it says:

Attached character may not ready.

What does ' may not ' mean? Is it supposed to have the same meaning as ' cannot ' or is it supposed to work similar to the Obsessive Inmate's ' does not '?

My guess would be the latter (i.e. the character is not readied by game effects but can be readied using card effects), but it's impossible to be surel without an addition to the FAQ.

Nitpickings aside, this AP adds a couple of very nice cards to the game!

The Doorway will I think be a staple in most decks that have any Silver Twilight presence, very nice card not just for combos but also for getting yours guys out of bad story situations. You can commit something cheap like Rich Widow to a story and your opponent either has to let her grab two tokens or send someone to stop her - but who won't actually be able to kill her or turn her insane because she'll escape through The Doorway. Or yank someone else cheap out and put a Rich Widow into play free. Get two and keep bouncing them, whatever... :)

LOL, I cannot believe I did not see the combo with this and Hidden Agenda until your post...

may not: it is prohibited.

cannot: it is impossible.

does not: to not happen.

If FFG is using actual English language rules then "may not" should work the same as "cannot" but we have seen things work out different than logic in the past...

Inconsistent templating is bad

I still want to know who Wilbu Whateley is?

Vaage Randers is a BEAST.

First, it's passive, so the effect will last, even if he is uncommitted, leaves play, etc. (note that it doesn't say 'while committed'!).

Second, as written, it applies to all stories, not just the one he is (or was) committed to.
