Request: Some Rule Help

By Coys1882, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

We're a group of guys at work learning to play off the Core Set so we're a little clueless about some of the rules. Sometimes it seems we spend more time settling disputes than playing the game. happy.gif

  1. Old Red Priest - After Old Red Priest is killed, choose and kneel a standing location you control, if able.
How is this beneficial to me? Wouldn't I have knelt the locations in the Marshalling phase if I wanted to?
  2. Military Challenge - Can the claim only be chosen from characters still standing? kneeling? Involved in defending? Any character?
  3. Xaro Xoan Daxos - After you play Xaro Xoan Daxos from your hand, choose and return a character you control to its owner's hand.
When is this beneficial to me if I'm playing Targ?
  4. Location Cards - On cards which give income and can be knelt - can they both bonuses be used? Simply put - are the cards knelt to give the income of just the influence?
  5. Attachments - Can a character have more than one attachment?
  6. Valar Morghulis - Sure it's been asked before but are there any saves for this plot? (ie: Lightbringer? Event cards?)
  7. Inifinity Symbol - What does this mean? Doesn't go to the dead pile but rather discard?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

1. It isn't. It's a "Cost" for having a fairly good 1g 3-icon character
2. Any character you control that can be killed (you can't choose a character that cannot be killed as claim)
3. It might be, if your opponent has placed a nasty attachment on one of your characters, or given you a character that you don't want. Or it might just be a downside.
4. Income is given regardless of whether the card is knelt or not. Influence requires kneeling. This is specifically addressed in the rules, I believe (or the FAQ).
5. Yes
6. You can save - it would specifically say otherwise ("cannot be saved") if it were otherwise. See "Wildfire assault", another killing plot.
7. Doesn't mean anything, but serves as a visual reminder that the card can be brought back from the discard/dead pile (depending on the card) with an ability it has (specifically detailed on the card itself).

We're still getting used to reading these cards like Lawyers!!! gran_risa.gif

The easiest way to handle the cards is make no real assumptions about it. Assume that what the card says is what it does, no more no less. You'll find that handles about 80% of your disputes right there.
