In need of help

By Asarii, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

Well as the title says I need help see I just remembered that later today my new group is meeting for a try at dark heresy. seeing as I have been busy with work I haven't been able to really work on the campaign I have in my head. Well my group is pretty small probably 3 or 4 people so I'll probably end up making a npc to help them in whatever area they fall short, they are also honestly a group not big on alot of investigation mainly a hack and slash type group. We only have the core rule book and the gm book, i read the games in them didn't really like them too much and knew my players wouldnt either.

My issue now is I created a alien race I don't have the stats on me at the minute they are were we play and wont have access to the books or my dice till later on. I just know there was no way in hell my players could beat the creature I rolled up with the generator. I thought about using tyrnids butthey just seem to bea near impossible thing to defeat and that would be discouraging for my players. The creature I rolled up I tried to at first base off of the movie Aliens since I had been watching that at the time but then I decided to have it like a human/tyrnid genetic hybird things which I don't know if its possible. Long story short I need a creature/race for my players to fight, I know one is a guard, one a psyker and the others I don't know about. I would like something that has that Alien movie like vibe for my guys dark sneaky and deadly. If anyone knows one that would fit this place let me know or if you could create one please post the stats and maybe some information about the race and maybe like a drone and warrior or something for a big boss fight.

thank you in advance sorry for the rambling post just getting home and to bed.

Well, genestealers are iirc Alien expys, so perhaps are the best thing if you want to go that way. If they are too powerful, perhaps you can nerf some abilities, make them a little more human-like in appearance, and say that these are genestealer hybrids?

I would also suggest genestealer hybrids. You can have cultists who have been fooled into bringing the spores needed onto the planet (or maybe they do it willingly), so normal humans of various types. You can also have genestealer hydrids. Rather than go for genestealers taken down a peg I would add things to humans. Maybe give some of them a bit of an exoskeleton for extra armour. Others give nasty non-primitive natural claws. Maybe a poison bite here and there. As the campaign progresses and you get more of a feel for what your PCs are capable of and have more time to prepare then you can build up to full genestealers or more.

What book is genestealers in cause we only have the core rule book and the gm book unless i`m just plain missing them. If they arent in a book I have I`d appreciate if someone could post the stats for me. And you pretty much came close to what I was planning it was going to be like a experiment type deal to defeat the tyrnids that created them.

one a side note i found a copy of the stats for the creature I made.

ws 53 bs 0 s 46 t 46 ag 48 int 22 per 28 wp 22 fel - wounds 12 with dark sight, natural weapons, natural armor 4, toxic(some sort of paralyzation thing i thought), regen 1 and disturbing

those stats seem to work ok, but genestealers are in the creature anathema and have a really high agility, strength, and Ws traits, plus they have a memory loop bite (once you are bit then you forget everything in the last 1 minute and then pass out, wake up and start propagating), however due to the fact you are using hybrids i would say those stats are fine, as for the psyker he would be a mangus if he is high rank other wise he is just a brood brother with psychic traits (which i don't think they have)..

Ah alright thanks all for the replies. I think I`m going to let my players come up with some sort of name for the creatures. hopefully the creature and the atmosphere of discovering them on a mysterious ship will entertain my guys.

To pile on to what others have said: do not throw Genestealers at your party at low levels! Even one of those things has a fair chance of wiping out a small first-level party. I recommend starting out with human adversaries (from the section in the back of the main rulebook), who have been infected by Genestealers. Once you have seen your party in action against a moderate threat, you will have a better sense of when to bring out the Big Baddies...
