1/35 buildings, anyone use them? Do they look OK?

By bulldoguk, in Dust Tactics General Discussion

Good day fellow Dusters!

Just trying to find out how believable 1/35 buildings look next to the 1/48 dust figures. I have found 1/48 buildings to be few and far between and surprisingly expensive (most being of the model railway genre). I would imagine buildings are a little more forgivable when compared to 1/35 vehicles v Dust

Eventually I will probably scratch up some of my own but I simply don't have the time right now and want a quick scenery fix in prep for the release of Warfare!

Any input would be appreciated before I go blow my hard earned wonga!

Regards and thanks in advance

A 6' character in 1:48 scale is 38mm tall, while in 1:35 scale, they would be 52mm tall, measured as full height from ground to the top of the head.

Buildings in 1:35 scale would be about 36% bigger than normal for 1:48 scale. They could still work, but would definitely look off if you looked very close. They'd have the advantage of having lots of room for dynamic poses and carried weapons, but would make the models look small overall.

I think it depends on the actual model itself. If its a complete house it will look to big, but if its in ruins you could imaging the 6' 6" door as an 8' factory door. If you want ruins then take a look at the Gale Force 9 Corner ruins they fit perfectly with the DT grid, are solid, come pre-painted and only cost about £15 each.

Here's a photo of mine in action:

I agree, I've got a few pieces of 1/35 and they look decent, but they are only bits, not complete structures, so they don't show the "off" difference so badly.

Thanks chaps. Never been too bothered in the exact technical specifications of scale and size I am a strictly 'if it looks cool, it'll do' sort of builder, in fact I can't remember the last time I used a ruler in any of my scratchbuilds and that includes Odin, the 5ft Warbringer Titan!

The ruin angle was the way I was going to go and figured these smaller incomplete section would probably do the trick so guess I am on a well know auction site tonight and I'll crack the airbrush out next week!

Those gale force ruins look nice but seem a little pricey at 15 quid a pop, maybe I'm just a tight Yorkshireman but think when I have the time I will probably just dig out the hot wire cutter and Poly sheet and knock something together, it's pretty surprising what you can come up with on the cheap!

@BulldogUK I've lurked on your tanks&trolls page many a time and have always been impressed with your work. So glad to see that you've caught the Dust bug, looking forward to seeing your work for this game. Paolo Parente will soon be announcing awalker build contest on the FaceBook page 'dust tactics fans-official'. I'm sure they will post the contest rules up here too, figured it might be something up your alley. Once again, great work.

Never been one for competitions to be honest but I am definately feeling the need to knock together a 1/6 scale Ludwig for the sheer hell of it, besides I have a 1/6 scale MG44 lying around somewhere, be a shame to waste it, better roll out the shark commission and get myself some personal build time sorted!

theres a game called 1-48 combat. go to there web site, and check out there terain.they have acouple of nice buildings, that are comming soon.cool mini or not is carrying the figures(here in the states).1-48combat.com.
