Tomb of Ice figures, finally got round to painting 'em! (and the rest)

By bulldoguk, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Well, seems like its been sat around gathering dust for ages now but I finally found a couple of mornings to slap a little paint on the ToI minis!

I must say, the quality just goes from strength to strength, so inspired I painted the entire contents of Tide of Iron and the expansions too!

As with the rest of the descent and doom miniatures all speed painted for effect rather than detail.

Links to the rest of the sets and a small painting guide can be found from the link below...enjoy gran_risa.gif

Gorgeous work!

Apparently two words is too short for a post, so I'll say that the shading is excellent... The only thing I would do differently is to try and change up the paint scheme a bit between the standard and master monsters, since the coloured base is a bit too subtle for my group of gamers ;-)

WOW! I absolutely love what you've done with these. The slow fading of some of the colours is absolutely beautiful. Great work.

Pure awesomeness dude. Way to show us all up.

Does the undercoat hold well on the figures? I had some issues with colors not holding too well on plastic (GW stuff).

Also, I echo the suggestion of painting the masters differently - the base to distinguish them is not enough.

As for the plural on medusa, its medusae ;)

It's important to wash the figures with a mild detergent before undercoating. That gets rid of any residues from the casting process that can make the coat come off. Since I've been doing that, I have had no problems.

Uthoroc is right, simply give the figures a gentle scrub using a mild detergent and rinse well (I actually use one of the good ladies old make-up brushes and the squeezy soap in a bottle). Leave to dry overnight then undercoat using an acrylic auto spray (its generally cheaper than 'professional' model sprays and just as good)

Regarding the matter of master monsters, everything is painted at once using block colours as the object is to speed-paint them! If I drew separate figures from the line-up it would slow things down which generally wasn't my mantra for these figures. If you can't see the difference between grey and red bases from 2 feet you seriously need to get better lighting or go see the opticians!! sorpresa.gif

Besides it wasn't really that important for this project as I have many many many more fantasy figures which I generally use for special characters gui%C3%B1o.gif

Great games btw, just on the end leg of a campaign then its a couple of months of Tide of Iron!
