Starbuck

By Rozy, in Battlestar Galactica

We played couple more games and it seems that Starbuck is preatty good character. Even if she is easy to send to Brig, I have found out that having her around is very powerfull. Basicly she can just flies in the viper and use 1 Max. Firepower each round and then as the second Action (because she stars her turn in viper) she usually Executive Order someone. Isnt that odd? Shouldnt she be errated for some thing like: "If you start your turn in viper you may attack once again"

It's situational.

Since she has to start her turn in a viper to take two actions, she can't stay there if she wants to activate a location. Also, if there are no Cylon ships around, her second action is pretty much wasted, since she can only Executive Order once per turn.

No I dont think so she has to start the turn in a viper to get the two actions.

Vipers are easily damaged so she ends up back in sickbay where someones exec orders gets her out so she can draw skill cards again. Plus I dont think she gets that many leadership cards anyway so its not as common and occurance as you would think.

Also the whole thrown in the brig thing is problematic especially if Tigh is also playing.

Ok, but in yesterday game it was pretty easy. If there wa a lot of cylon ships she used 2x Max Firepower, IF just few she used one MF and one EO, and if none. She used EO and then Lunched Scout to see what Crisis is coming...that seem very powerfull to me.

The issue with Max fire is that you have to be in the same spot as the ships in order to attack them. Movement of your VIper costs you an actions the max fire doesnt let you move. It says attack up to 4. If you dont go out to meet the ships then they have to come to you. Often times you have to go out to meet them and they activate before you get the chance. Usually to do the trick someone else has to EO Starbuck and leadership cards are not always that plentiful in the turn order sequence.

Yes she is hard to beat in combat but its not always so easy because it takes a combination of things.

Also using all the cards leaves the fleet vulnerable to crisis cards. So its a trade off. Cylons dont really care if you blow up a ton of their ships its an attrition game for them after all. Sooner or later you are going to not have cards and they will get through in one way or another.

Yes she does, that's what her sheet says.

I think he was replying to the original post, and is missing a dot between the 'so' and the 'she'

Punctuation is a problem for me sometimes. But you are correct.

i played Starbuck for the first time last night, and as much as I agree that she is beast when she has Maximum Firepower, I literally went three turns drawing two Evasive Maneuvers cards! And there were cylons on the board. That was not fun.

She's terrific in terms of dealing with Cylon attacks, and her ability is situationally good with Launch Scout, Executive Order and Consolidate Power. Considering she only naturally draws Launch Scout and piloting cards, it shouldn't be too much of a deal.

Though, a silly turn would be for her to start her turn in a viper, use her movement to land at the press room on Colonial One (discarding a skill card to do so) and then draw four Politics cards. Weird!

Wrong, you may move your viper in the move step.

Yes the press room thing is kinda wierd. Think of it this way: Adama decides to make a poster hero out of starbuck. She doesn't have to be good at politics, Adama, Lee, and Roslin do all the talking, she is just there for the spokespeople to talk about.
