First Founding: Anyone else afraid we'll just be getting pre-existing but repackaged GW material?

Too too much good good stuff got left on the floor...really good role-playin'-type stuff...and just to re-iterate for everyone's benefit: Salamanders love self-reliance, Iron Hands hate weakness, and the Dark Angels just can't stand all you imperfect treacherous fiends! gui%C3%B1o.gif

I"m really hoping all this and more is in First Founding.....but, if history is a predictor of future action, it won't be.....llorando.gif

Well, given that I worked on First Founding (can't go into more detail; hopefully we'll see another designer diary soon that'll help explain matters), and I like to think that I know what I'm doing (or at least can provide a reasonable facsimile of someone who knows what he's doing), then hopefully my words can reassure you - First Founding is my favourite Deathwatch book so far, and I count the parts I worked on as some of the best work I've done for FFG (some projects just go together more easily than others). I know that I tried to avoid falling back on the simplest levels of each chapter's stereotypes (again, I can't explain how), if that helps allay any fears.

It's not my fav DW book I'm afraid. And we can't talk about my fav DW book, so we'll leave it at that. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Well, i thank no 1 for striving to allay my concerns (partially allayed!); and I thank H for telling me there's another, even cooler, book comin' for DeathWatch...wait, i can't afford TWO more books!! Awww, you guys suk! (and for some reason this bass-ackwards messaging program put my winkin' emoticon in the totally wrong place......stoopid friggin' program........)

Can't talk about your fav DW book... Sounds like you know something about something in the pipeline thats gonna be rocking our little power armoued worlds :)?

Given that people from Games Workshop are working on this as well. I have a feeling it will be pushing the boundaries of the setting a bit and actually be official stuff used in the Wargame at some point too. FFG has been proving to be a great benefit to the IP, so this seems to be a big show of trust from the suits at GW.

Whoa. back from my short getaway and I see many posts that respond to this. So far the TT is unable to characterise many of the traits of each chapter.

Simply because there really isn't much leeway to work those into the game rules. Using the Salamanders again, maybe the idea is since they rely on themselves, they craft their own weapons. Hence the mastercrafted flame weapons for the TT. The connections may not be well established.

The fluff however, adds a flavour and depth. Something like third dimension to the TT. It fleshes out the characters and gives life to GW elements in the form of needed personification for every chapter. Now players get to explore all the skin and flesh of their chosen chapters.

You get to personify your marine in a way only RPGs can do. And in fact I felt that this is in another way, growing the product and strengthening branding for WH40k.

As for me, its "Into the Fires of Battle and Onto the Anvil of War!"

I hope to see wolf priest...

more customized weapons and armor for wolf chapter...

more trapping....

the wolf guard...

more more more...usefull material....

Wolf Priest, along with Wolf Scout, is mentioned in the latest designer diary.

My biggest hope is some rebalancing of the originally printed groups too. Especially Space Wolves and Imperial Fists - help make them a bit more on par with the other chapters.

Otherwise, I'm happy anyways. White Scars? Raven Guard? Salamanders? Iron Hands? Everything we've needed! Right down to the Rites of Battle chapter Creator being fully useable now.

And I guess the first thing isn't my biggest hope, though is the more realistic, as my real biggest hope? That those Traitor Legions get some form of CG write up as well. That might be asking too much, but I can dream!

I have always been a fan of the Raven Guard. So I am looking forward to First Founding.

Seconded. Obviously ...

Story potential-wise I'd be even more interested in the Blood Ravens. But, alas, They're no first founding chapter, anyways.

Wouldn't that be a topic for Black Crusade?
