Please, no more in-house cards for champions

By Kaworu, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Originally, there were all sorts of rules about what your card could and could not be. House-specific was a definate no-no. Otherwise you would have seen at least one Lanni one lengua.gif

But I am glad it changed. There are plenty of amazing cards that champs have not made, and it is still up to FFG and the playtesters to make sure it is at least remotely balanced.

~Heck, even the agenda was balanced, which means the players are actually better designers than the designers gui%C3%B1o.gif

I wouldn't call it balanced. It might actually be underpowered. I only know of one person who has placed well at a MAJOR tournament using KotHH.

Balanced doesn't = sucky.

Didn't you run it at Worlds, or am I mental Mr. FJF? And didn't Luke use it pretty well in Iowa?

I agree it could use SOMETHING, just not sure what...maybe it allow set-up, but you count 0 gold during set-up, making you choose between having somewhat of a set up in exchange for your later draws sucking with all income and no power cards?

I suspect that just means that its less good than The Maester's Path. TMP does provide both an income and card advantage. KOTHH only provides income even if its arguably better income. Sometimes card advantage agendas are more useful.

Dobbler is the only one I know who placed well at a major tourney (regionals/worlds level) using it.

For drawing cards, LIV and LS are also pretty decent - would love something like LIV in Targ or Stark!

Obviously LIV is an auto-include, but I'm a huge fan of LBW as a draw mechanic too. Just having it on the board can be intimidating enough that your opponent lets challenges through unopposed, and it works great in melee as a crossfire ability, surprise use of LBW when two opponents are duking it out nets you a card and kills something during a P or I challenge (and boy can it make enemies too).

I'm not saying I'm opposed to giving GJ more saves, but I don't know that I would give them tons more draw. Maybe an effect that interacted with the discard pile would be nice though (especially the opponent's discard pile).

Does GJ really even need more saves at this point? Wendamyr, RftS, Iron Mines & Cliffs, Tarle, Salt Wife, not to mention their two Holy characters that don't really die... how many more save mechanics would you even put in a deck? I agree that they don't need "tons more draw" but something more reliable that doesn't depend on you winning or making a challenge would be nice since things like Lanni kneel and Black Cells can totally shut down GJ draw. ~I suppose theres always Fishmongers Square...

KOTHH does provide a sort of card advantage, as you can remove income locations and setup weenies, and put more powerful cards in their place. Deck advantage.

As someone who has played it quite a bit, I would say this isn't really the case. Maybe on locations a little, but considering the lack of set up you still need weenies to survive early-game. But, I see the point.

I though Dobbler WAS Fat Jon Finkel?

Sheesh, I hope he didn't think that was me! I just abuse cards, I don't whine and cry hoping for nerfings.

What are the odds that two personalities of a person with multiple personality disorder BOTH play AGoT? sorpresa.gif

The neutral cards curious, useful and powerful in some decks. But in-house cards are powerful, unbalanced and auto-included in every deck. Any deck with The Blackfish, The Laughing Storm or Meera Reed is better.

Well, that's the point of the champions cards.
