Can insane characters benefit from Toughness?

By jhaelen, in CoC Rules Discussion

E.g. by having 'Dutch Courage' in play or by attaching a card like 'Patrol Wagon' or 'Getaway Vehicle' to the insane character?

I think that should work just fine, right?

I don't think so. Here's my logic: Dutch Courage, for example, actually gives characters the keywords: "Toughness + 1", but insane characters lose all keywords.

Nope, they cannot be tough because they lose all their text. It's specifically mentioned on p14 of the rulebook under "Insanity":

"When a character goes insane, it is flipped facedown and all cards attached to it are destroyed. If a wounded character, regardless of its Toughness, goes insane, it is immediately destroyed. Likewise, if an insane character is wounded, it is immediately destroyed."

Thanks for your answers!

Seems like I misremembered; I thought it was only the printed text that was blanked. I also found an even clearer passage in the FAQ:

An insane character’s skill, text box, cost,
and icons cannot be modified.

So, that's pretty final. There's no protection for my poor insane characters! llorando.gif

yes, but can you attach a card to an insane character that specifically targets "a character"? The FAQ states that an insane character still counts as a character and the rules say to destroy all attachments when a character goes insane but if a character is already insane can something be attached to it?

Simply put, yes.
