My rudimentary search skills didn't find me the question I was looking for, so my preemptive apologies if I'm being redundant here.
Given a scenario where a character with duplicates goes leaves play due to a cannot be saved (Marched to the Wall or Wildfire Assault) or through some burn effect (Threat from the North or Flame Kissed), and a Narrow Escape* is played, do you get back only a single copy of the character the duplicates as well.
I'm just confused a bit on card memory and whether the game remembers that a character card in the discard pile was in play as the character or as the duplicate. Obviously if the case is only one copy, and it was a Moribund-Deadpile effect like Wildfire or FK, it would grab the bring out the copy from the dead pile.
Again, my initial thought is that you only get back the single copy, but I wanted to confirm. Part of me was thinking that the effect would look at the discard pile (as an example) and see three copies of Bran Stark, the fact that 2 of them had been in play as "blank" duplicates would no longer register. It would recognize that Bran Stark had been in play, attempt to grab any given copy and return them to play simultaneously, and then it either gets one into play and doesn't care about the rest or they do enter play and the 2nd & 3rd become duplicates again.
I'm probably just floating back to the days of Crown of Suns, and watching clu try to use NE to get back any face down character cards on the Riders of the Boneway or the original Coin Mint . (I realize that it's a different situation, but it's enough to contribute to my befuddlement)
*Any Phase: Put into play from their owner's dead piles or discard piles all characters that were killed or discarded this phase. Any opponent may discard his or her hand of at least 1 card to cancel this effect.
