Looking for Dwarf's Adventures

By madpoet, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Finally I managed to organize a group of gamer ready to play a ONLY DWARVES CAMPAIGN.

After playing Journey to Black Fire Pass I m searching for adventures with a dwarf theme.

I d like to play 2 adventures before the one inclueded in Black Fire Pass supplement.

If anybody knows a title or two which could be amusing to play with dwarves I would appreciate any kind of help.

DWARF POWER!

It's probably for later, but you should totally convert the Karag Azgal adventure...

Well a first Adventuere Hook might be from the first expansion of MB's Hero Quest. :)

The first expansion was in english caled Kellars Keep or something, and in german it was actually called Karak Varn.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HeroQuest

Spoiler for players here:

Don't try to buy it as it goes up to 99€s these days, but I have it from my youth days and it has some cardboard pieces and also a 4 piece secret plan through a passage through Karak Varn. As an adventure hook you can build the 4 pieces as 4 items found in the previous adventures and then the finished plan can also be mounted into the beginning adventure of a journey to black fire pass. Involving the players in finding the plan which is lost in the first place.

---

Another try might be this one, but only available in german so maybe not for every dwarven player around:

https://www.amazon.de/Das-schwarze-Auge-Kar-Domadrosch/dp/B002N1WYHG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1319445597&sr=8-2

4 short adventures and scenario ideas, involving tunnel, machinerie and beer. As Best at it gets.

---

I'm not sure if it was already mentioned. For 1st Edition of warhammer there were several hack and slay adventures. One was:

http://www.amazon.com/Dwarf-Wars-Warhammer-Fantasy-Roleplay/dp/1872372252

A civil war might be these days to much, but maybe the material can be put to use. 20$ used in the US and 35€ in germany.

Another adventure hook could be a warhammer verion of the novel "The dwarfs". It is quite popular in german called "Die Zwerge". I haven't read it but the main part is joung innocent guy (Luke Skywalker) is told that he is the chosen one (Neo) and needs to safe the world. Except that he is a dwarf raised buy humans and named Tungdil. Its a bestseller and I think I will get the audiodrama soon.

https://www.amazon.de/Dwarves-Book-Markus-Heitz/dp/1841495727/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319447035&sr=8-1

The adventure hook might be the german satiric version of it. "Zwerg und Überzwerg" where the protagonist is also the chosen one but the elders aren't really worried that he might die trying as they can always find another chosen one.

The adventure hook might be the PCs are recruited to find and protects the chosen one dwarf (Oen Ornulfsson). The Mr. Smith dwarf (runelord, thane of a family, mineelder) knows exactly that this chosen one stuff is mumbo jumbo but the villains try to get their hands on this shown chosen one. So the PCs have to protect the chosen one succesfully or unsucesfully, find the villains and find the plans behind the sheme. All while the chosen one is wielding his axe and repeating that he knows that there is actually no spoon.

The GM has to be carefull though because warhammer dwarfs don't really try to kill or harm each other. Only the real bad ones. So Mr. Smith as a dwarf will not try to harm the PCs or the chosen one. But lying is ok to warhammer dwarfs. Sometimes it seems. In Grudgleore thievery from one clan to the next will lead to a grudge but was done none the less. The villains on the other hand should be trying to kill the PCs. But also there should be political involvements between the protagonists and Mr. smith. Orcs or Skaven wouldn't fit in. So maybe the setting could be in Übersreik and the protagonists is a human mining delegation trying to sabotage the ore-trading between karaz azgaraz and the empire.

The have tried to kill the original negotiator thane and a new one directly form the dwarf population of ubersreik is named to act as the new leader of the dawrf delegation. For Mr.Smith is a decoy as the original thane is badly wounded and not dead as everybody thinks. But still in a location in ubersreik. The chosen one was elected directly from ubersreik so that the negotiatons could continue without delay as a new apointed thane form Karaz Azgaraz would take days to arrive.

I think I will make the adventure hook a little more detailed soon.

So if you wan't to go heavy on dwarf adventures you should integrate them maybe into the Karak Azgaraz society from the Black Fire pass suplemental. Also in the description of the Karak there are several adventure hooks hidden. The gyrocopter that needs vital parts, the giant eagle that doesn't show up anymore or the ale smugling to bretonia that happens from inside the karak. The PCs could develop into something like the D-Team. They are called from the king or thanes when certain things have to be taken care of without any official involvement.

Also regular stops at karaz azgaraz gives the runsmiths and engineers time to build their next item, weapon or invention.

I saw Karak Azgal supplement but it doesn t contain adn adventure.

There's just a description of several underground levels with many different monsters.

It s just an ugly dungeon with some good information about a dwarf's hold.

No, the dungeon design for karak azgal product is nothing of any note. There are some neat themes, but little else. It would be good for people who have all the time in the world to draw maps D&D-style :)

I played in Gitzman's karak azgal dungeon for 2e on MAPTOOL online virtual tabletop (free). Maybe he'll upload the campaign file. His maps were pretty :)

Frankly speaking I m quite tired of dungeons.

I think I ll try to adapt the doomstones campaign. It about dwarves, mountains, ancient artifacts and green skins so I think could be nice to play it witha dwarf only party.

Me too. We've been playing the old Scenario Contest entries from the old Black Industries site (now available on scribd). None of them are dungeon crawls.

It would be nice to see a good couple dwarf scenarios though that are as deep in mystery and intrigue as the "human" ones. I suppose they'd be easily adapted thematically, as human and dwarf society are so similar (although I don't think of dwarfs as having seedy slums in their Karak's).

The old Doomstones campaign can, with some work, be made in to a great dwarven political campaign, let alone that most of what you travel through is dwarven in some way.

My dwarf-only group will start the Doomstone Campaign after the next two adventures.

First we will went from the Reikland back to Karak Azgaraz in my scenrio contest entry for the german release of the game. Well, it is a dwarven themed adventure but in german only. It got grudges, a reckoner, a dwarven bride and a lot of dwarven runes. :)

After that hey will be hired by a Border Princess noble. Scenario is "Crossing the Border" , a short one bringing the adventurers to the starting point of the doomstone Campaign. See: http://www.warpstone.org/downloads/hogshead_goodies.htm

For the Campaign I am making adjustements for the stones itself. With the Action Spell Cards the PCs can gain acces to powerfull spells provided by the doomstones. In the old rules they get access to more powerfull spells once they get more and more into the stones. So rules wise for the stone of fire I will simply give the player another spell card from the school of fire. The spells can been cast without power supply. I think I will use the tokens to tell how many hours the spell needs to recharge. Levle 5 Spells will have drastic affects on the health of the caster. Chaos Stars while casting will cause some of the effects discribed in the rules. Actually the Chaos Star is most fitting.

At the moment I'm undecided if I will translate all the handouts into german.

Also the Doomstone Adventure offers a lot of money to find for the adventurers. My personal Gold 2nd to 3rd translation is by dividing it through 30. Even though sometimes they found 350 GCs which is 11,6 Gold in the new 3rd Gold currency. Quite too much for my liking. Also it breaks the suggested 65 silver of emirikols house rules which I find very sound. And there are several magic items around, a super sword here, a gromril chainmail there. Again to high fantasy for my liking. Maybe it will be a rune weapon or a superior one with plus ane blue or yellow dice. (See Liber Fanatica 8 for the expanded superior items)

The main part should then as mentioned the conflict between Karak Izor and Karaz-a-Karak in dwarf wars. I hope my dwarf group from Karak Azgaraz can solve that peacefully somehow. And the the final should be a heroic one, as I'm not really positive with the idea of melting my dwarf group once they have saved the world.

I've found now that I've got a lot longer list of disposable stuff the PCs can buy, that the money issue has been a lot easier to handle.

They almost always need healing draughts, and I'm pushing them to get more 'temporary' buffs such as other types of potions, scrolls, and herbal/medicine stuff. Other things such as bribes, forged writs and the like have also helped.

The biggest drain on party finances usually comes in the way of hospitals and asylums (prices noted in my HR book too).

As for dwarf adventures, we're still in Blackfire pass, and as a player, I'm trying to get the group to go into the Athel Loren to "see what the Wood Elves" are up to..plus, it would be payback to the fellow running the game who did 'interesting things' when I was GMing ;)

I started somewhat of a relatedd discussion on the frank plagarism of 4e D&D of the WFB dwarf cultural distinction in order to spark discussion about where to find more scenarios from that and other systems... here.

Sometimes more busy bees come out when you stir the nest with buss rather than to a trolls regenerative arm (but really, is there a difference? ;)

Those maps are still on Gitzmans Gallery under the 2nd edition stuff.

Gitzman

There's a WFRPv1 scenario for all-Dwarf parties called "Curse of the Clan Heirloom" at MadAlfred's site: http://www.madalfred.darcore.net/

Yeah! Madalfred has some dwarven stuff. Actually he is THE Dwarf guy for WFRP. The author of Stone & Steel is the man to tell something about dwarfs. :)

CURSE OF THE CLAN HEIRLOOM is from the start setting a little like the Adventure from Black FIre Pass with Kordens Hammer. But is actually quite fun how the heirloom brings unfortune to everyone who touches it.

@Emirikol:
I see you have updated your houserule list. It’s a great source and I think I will integrate it completely.
One question regarding the superor items.
So you make an item 10-times the price for 1 white dice. 7,5 Gold. So the 15 Gold for 2 white dice is 20-times the original price right?
Also there is a price for a purple dice. Is that something for an armor to give better protection?

D&D Dwarf conversion:
I have bought HAMMERFAST the D&D supplemental and was disappointed. As the amazon review says it is actually not a dwarf only town but every race lives there. Even orcpriests and dwarf ghosts who roam the street. Actually the whole setting is “too D&D” for my liking. So I don’t think I can salvage something from it. The Map is nice but it is a real New York City map with blocks and streets. My current dwarf fortress map actually looks better and more dwarven.

Das Schwarze Auge conversion:
Das Schwarze Auge (The dark eye) is THE german roleplaying game dating back to 1984. I have bought Kar Domadrosch which is a supplemental of 4 dwarf adventures and several Adventure Hooks. The Dwarfs in this system are like D&D dwarfs. With the exception that one clan lives in hobbit holes and is more merrily as there are no Halflings in the DSA setting. The other clans are more traditional. Every dwarf has to made his own chainmail before he reaches adulthood and stuff.
The 4 Adventures can be used, but from most of them the happy end has to been warhamerized. The grudge between two old friends doesn’t fade away after 200 years in the Old World.
The other adventures is a dungeon crawl with dwarven traps, a beer related quest and then something with an old engineers workshop, lost in time.

For Adventure hooks and dwarven Adventure conversion I will start a list of links on my dwarven blog.

Well, but it will been made in german

Thanks for reading it. The equipment list has advanced quite far.

Regarding the pricing of a white dice superior item: I went with 10x or 7.5 gold (whichever is more). For two white dice, I made it a flat 15gold because at that point, it just doesn't need to be as complicated. If characters have that much gold sitting around, they need to part with it!

Yes, the purple dice is for items that would cause an opponent to gain that penalty, for example poison or something. After Hero's Call comes out, I'll be updating the book again. You can see all my proposed additions in the "yellow" section after conditions.

Any suggestions are welcome.
