Core / Arkham / OotST and Asylum packs... what do I need to buy for a OCD must get 3 of every card type player?

By booored, in CoC General Discussion

Dose the CORE give you a copy of every card 3 times? Or is it 2 of every card? Are there any singletons?

Do I need to buy 1 or 2 or 3 copies of core?

Also Order of the Silver Twilight is 3 of every card isn't it? While Arkham is only 2 of every card?

So for a completest with an Obsessive–Compulsive Disorder.. I would need to buy what exactly to be able to field any deck of my choosing? As all the asylum packs are 3 of every card apart form them ones not re-issued yet... so it is just the core and major expansions I need to worry about?

Thanks in advance

The Core Set comes with 1 copy of each card, so if you're an OCD collector like me, then you would need to purchase 3 Core Sets. Once I committed to this game I promptly grabbed 3 Core Sets and never looked back. Compared to the gamers in my group who only own 1 copy of the Core Set, I feel my decks are both more powerful and thematic - it's pretty much a must-buy.

You need to purchase 2 Secrets of Arkham expansions to get 3 copies of the cards contained therein. I'm not 100% sure why it comes with only 2 copies of each card, other than to say it was released earlier in the game's cycle when the Asylum Packs were still 40 cards. I believe the Order of the Silver Twilight expansion was released after FFG made the switch to the 60-card APs. My brother and I bought 3 copies of SoA and split 1 so we could have 3 copies of each. I'm sure it would not be difficult to find someone (locally or online) who would do the same. If you can't, I might know a guy...

To sum up: It's just the Core Set and Secrets of Arkham expansion you need to worry about. At some point, all the 40-card APs will be reprinted in the new 60-card format so I would wait until that happens as opposed to buying multiples of a 40-card pack now.

Good hunting!

So when exactly do the 60 card packs start? I live do not having any gaming stores near where i live so i get 99% of my stuff from the internet. I just received a pack today and 2 of the coc packs were 40 card versions :( The Search for the Silver Key and Sleep of the Dead.

So I was wondering exactly when did the 60 card packs start... ?

Small point, you only really need 1 1/2 copies of Secrets of Arkham. So, see if you can get another player to split the 2nd copy or maybe sell the extra half-set on eBay or here.

The first packs to come out in 60 card format was the Yuggoth Contract cycle. All sets from that point on only exist as 60-card versions.

Many of the packs from before that time have since been reprinted in 60 card format. The whole Summons of the Deep cycle has, and most of the earliest asylum packs (At the Mountains of Madness, Ancient Horrors, Spawn of Madness, Kingport Dreams, Conspiracies of Chaos).

The only older packs that have NOT been reprinted yet are Dunwitch Denizens and the entire Dreamlands cycle. That's 7 packs total. I believe Dunwitch Denizens is coming out next month, and presumably they'll start on Dreamlands once that's done but I don't think any date has been official announced yet.

So basically, you're safe to buy any of the Yuggoth or later packs. Anything older, check with the vendor to make sure it's the 60 card version. You can often tell from the price too. If the online price is about $10+ it's probably the 60 card version. Also, almost all copies of the oldest packs (now called the Forgotten Lore cycle) are going to be the 60 card versions too since the original 40 card printings have been out of print for a long time. Do not buy anything from the Dreamlands cycle yet, I'd recommend getting everything else first and waiting for the reprints.
