Terminator Armor at Creation

By Spehktre, in Black Crusade

How come we see multiple models and pictures of termies with chain axes then? I get that there's lots of "explanations" for these restrictions, but they all seem froced and, frankly pretty stupid to me. I get that what's allowed is probably the most efficient loadouts, but it's so extremely boring to be forced to choose from such a limited list that makes every character that wants a termie armour a clone of everyone else with one.

I guess I'm missing a semblance of thinking outside the box from ffg in this regard.

These where actually treated as power weapons in the rules. At least 3rd edition 40k and onwards.

But yeah, I´m not trying to patronize or anything, everyone is entitled to follow his own imagination (with all the inconsistencies and gaps in the lore anyways).

Yeah, sorry if I came across as cross, but little things like this irks me.... I guess it's the price for being a nerd ;)

I feel you, I really do.

I too have this problem at times. A very definitive imagination of how things are and aren´t in the 40k universe...and with that sometimes trouble to accept deviances from my own perspective.

Anyhow, no offence taken :)

I'm pretty sure the reason termie armor can't be used with many weapons is because it's rules are largely copied from Deathwatch. In DW those rules made more sense, as the Loyalists only use the best weapons to avoid angering Termie armor's machine spirit at such unclean uses.

But in BC, we are much wiser now. And there are several pictures of Termie champions using chainaxes (pg 92, and more, but I don't feel like finding them right now) Plus if a termie suited legionnaire can use a Force knife or shield, than chain weapons and really, anything else could be used. It might be hard to use finesse with such weapons but the added strength should make up for it. Maybe a -5 or -10 penalty and feint tests with weapons not designed for termie suits would be okay?

As for ranged weapons the reason combi weapons seem to be soem of the only things which can be used is because of their short length. Considering that there is enough recoil dampening to fire a reaper autocannon single handed with termie armor, restricting basic weapons is silly.

Heavy weapons could be used as long as they are modified to attach to the armor it'self.

Considering the reverence bordering on fanatism with which the Codex Astartes is followed by most loyalist chapters, odds are that if a weapon isn't referenced for terminator use, most wouldn't thouch it - making the supply of that sort of weapons very scarce.*

Of course a chaos marine hasn't the same issues, though the supply problem remains - he's going to ned a custom designed weapon and the most likely source is what came with the armor in the first place. He can probably get an existing weapon adapted by an heretek (or even built from scratch) but that would be a custom job.

In my opinion the weapons restrictions are what's commonly available, you can get somethting else but you have to custom-roder or retrofit it.

@jackel_strain

thats what the fluff given in several books from 2nd edition on wards, in first ed ie the hallowed tome known as Rouge Trader and its ancilery books slaves to darkness and lost and damned (two awesome books on chaos if you can get em) you had more variety but you also had space marines with las pistols lol

and for that matter give the character a slayer limb for what ever and be done with it. the armor would be modified to fit the new arm at that point and you can have anything you want in the slayer limb
