So I'm considering running a story arc inside the ship. The reason I want to do this is to really expand on the mini-world the players have aboard this.
My players are upon a large frigate and looking at pictures (as well as reading descriptions) of these vessels I was always fascinated by the many spires that loom out of the top of the ships. So what I'm thinking of is making mini-cities within "domes" (ie large vista panels that show the outside or simulate day arc in a large sky like bubble over a minature hive city. Inside the city would function almost like any other world with panels that play commercials for products, news casters that talk about destinations or even things the players (being high ranking individuals on the ship and the closing thing to celebrities as there would be there), etc. I'm thinking of putting full hab blocks, bars, shops, restaurant's, clubs, etc within this miniature city and having little flying personal transports, steam trains / etc run through it. Basically I want to make the whole place a miniature world to represent that not all of the city is always working and that many of them probably aren't crew but rather merchants that have been brought aboard to keep the crew happy, families of the crew that work minature jobs within this city sector.
I haven't worked out the story yet but I'm trying to get idea's to fully flesh this imagery out. So if anyone has pictures or idea's for what could be contained within the premise I'm shooting here I'd be happy to hear idea's. I think this will give the players more of an appreciation for their ship and perhaps even attach them to NPC's aboard it so during long warp travels it's not just a blank time where they sit around and wait for the next plot point to come up at their destination.
