how many dice sets optimal?

By DandGeezer, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

If you have a full 5 player game, how many sets of dice would you recommend?...

We have 3, and that seems to work out rather well. Odds are against more than 2 of your party members having the same type of attacks, so 3 of each main dice gives 2 of each to the party, and one of each to the OL. All the other dice can be divided up as needed.

I have 3 sets and that seems to do the trick. When the heroes start getting gold treasures it's possible that some of the green and yellow dice will have to be shared but for the most part with 3 sets each hero has the dice from their primary weapon and the OL has a full set for himself.

Great! I have two ordered sets on the way (maybe; anyone know if FFG sends out a "Order Shipped" email?)...

Yes, they will send you an e-mail to let you know that your order has been shipped, along with a tracking number if you're not using the normal post.

I have a set of dice for each player so five sets here and it does make the game move along faster.

I think I will stick with my 3 sets for now and, after our first game, if it seems more will help, place another order...

We've always coped with 1 set of dice.

so sad... :)

I find that I'm good enough at remembering what dice various weapons and monsters need that I can usually find all the appropriate ones within a few seconds, usually while the player who's about to roll them is still moving his figure into position for the attack. I very much doubt that having an extra set of dice (or two, or four) would produce any perceptible change in our overall game speed.
