Questions regarding the Renegade starter package

By Cynicus, in Black Crusade

So, in the starting package for the Renegade, there are a few incongruities that have me confused:

SP (which I assumed was Solid Projectile) is listed twice in weapon training, and i suspect the second one is supposed to be something else, anyone any idea what? At first I assumed it was Power, since the starting gear has a Power mace option, but it also has a Plasma and Flame option, and I'm just not sure which it is supposed to be.

Heavy Weapon Training (Any), this talent simply doesn't exist, instead, heavy is a specialization for weapon training. I'm not sure here if, for a heavy weapon, you only need Heavy, or Heavy and the actual type, like plasma, flame, bolt, etc etc.

Heavy weapon training (any) mens that you get to choose what type of heavy weapon you are trained in from the list of available types.

Not according to the Weapon Training talent. Heavy might have been like that once, in a previous edition of the book, but it's now just a category like Plasma and Bolter, though I guess it would be reasonable to demand both the talent for heavy and the weapon category in general, that'd be a GM decision though. As written, if you have the Weaon Training talent for Heavy, you could use every heavy weapon, though I wouldn't handle it that way in most cases.

It would be a gargantuan xp dump/waste if you had to buy Heavy (Plasma) and Heavy (Flamer).

Also, btw, I'd assume that the second SP in the Renegade profile is meant to be plasma.

Hi:

I suggest checking what equipment options the Archetype has, this'll probably clear up mistakes (eg. if he has a plasma weapon available as a choice, for instance, 100% probably he'll begin w/the Talent).

That's the whole point, they have plasma and power options, but the training is Chain, Las, SP, SP, thus with only one SP to be a mistake that could mean either Power or Plasma, not both.

The weapon training talent itself is contradictory.

It gives the categories of Bolt, Chain, Heavy, Las, Launcher, Melta, Plasma, Power etc etc, however in the description it says you can use all the weapons with Class: Pistol, Basic, Heavy, Throwing and Melee within the group you've selected.

So if I take Weapon Training: Heavy, I can use all the heavy pistols, heavy basic weapons, heavy heavy weapons.... you see the problem.

If you can use all the classes of weapons, then Heavy shouldn't be an option for Weapon Training, after all, you don't get to take Weapon Training: Pistol or Weapon Training: Throwing.

I'd say this is another conflict brought about by the changes from previous games to BC.

I'm ruling that Weapon Training options shouldn't include Heavy.

As for the double SP in the renegade package, I'm swapping it for Flame (which is missing from the Weapon Training options as well....), letting the Renegade start with the 'standard' weapon options, leaving the more 'exotic' for additional training picked up using XP.

Flame isn't missing, it isn't there because flame weapons require no BS test, you just point them in the general direction and they either dodge or get hit.

Previous lines also lacked a BS Test to fire but there was still a talent for Flame class weapons to prevent enemies getting a bonus to their Agility tests.

Aye, I've also noticed that Flamer seems to be missing from the description of the Weapon Talent, instead Heavy is mentioned, which is obviously a mistake, since the Talent itself, allows the character to use all weapons of that type, like for instance, Laser.

I've houseruled that Flamer weapons require a Weapon Training Talent to use properly. Makes more sense that way. Since, after all, we are dealing with a fairly volatile kind of weapon here.

I think it was Power, but yea, it's a typo.

The "Heavy Weapon" one is also wrong, since the Weapon Training talents obviously changed a few times, so I'd suggest instead adding a "Weapon Training (any)" option, since that allows for getting exotic weapons straight off too, which sort of fits a Renegade.

so should i change Heavy WT to Plasma or Power, or is the second SP supposed to be one of these?
