It's not specified anywhere. The coming epic supplement has at least one character that is major in year 2524. So I would advice you to start it on year before that.

You can, of course, run your campaign during any time period. Mine, for instance, is set in the year 2000 shortly after the comet destroyed Mordheim.

"Default" year for Warhamer 3ed is somewhere around 2520-2521, before the Archaon's invasion.

It's really nice idea, as the second edition was set by default in 2522, shortly after invasion, making it a bit post-apocalytpic setting in some cases, like northern parts of the Empire.

My regular campaign started in 2521 then proceeded to the setting of 2nd edition. I like 2nd edition time a little better as now I have an excuse to bring chaos warriors to all parts of the empire

I have come across more than a few suggestions that even GW may have got cold feet about Archaeons invasion in 2522, ie Storm of Chaos. As FFG have to follow GW's lead, don't be surprised if the Storm of Chaos disappears to be replaced by something less apocalyptic.

2521 is a good date to start in, however.
