Timing of "which effect triggers first"

By Bomb, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I am asking this for general help.

Hypothethical situation:

Player A has Flaming Pitch Tower which has the text:

"Limited Response: After you win a challenge by 4 or more total STR,kneel Flaming-Pitch Tower to choose a character without attachments. Until the end of the phase, that character gets -4 STR and is killed if its STR is 0. (Limit 1 Limited Response per round.)"

Player B has Areo Hotah which has the text:

"Response: After you lose a challenge by 4 or more total STR,kneel Areo Hotah to choose and kill 1 character."

Player A defeats Player B in a challenge by 4 or more total STR. What order do these effects get enforced should each player choose to use them?

If Player A chooses to use Flaming Pitch Tower on Areo Hotah, I assume Areo Hotah can still respond to the challenge loss while being in Moribund?

Let's pretend Areo Hotah's ability is identical except that instead of killing 1 character, he discards one location. Both these Responses can be enforced on each other resulting in killing/discarding each other?

I believe my assumption is correct, but just want to be sure since this exact situation happened in a game the other night and those 2 players were confused as to what happens.

1) The responses get resolved, consecutively and individually, in the order in which they were triggered. The First Player has the first opportunity to trigger a response to a framework event, and the opportunity moves clockwise around the table until all players consecutively pass. Each response resolves fully before the next one can be triggered.

2) Yes

3) Yes

Thank you very much. That was the answer I hoped. :-)

Just for my own understanding of this hypothetical, this would resolve is this order...?

1. First player triggers the effect that kills Areo, that effect is resolved and now Areo is in Moribund:Dead.

2. Once it is player 2's turn, he uses Areo's response while he (Areo) is already in Moribund:Dead state, to discard that location. Now the location is in Moribund:Discard.

3. Both players pass on further responses.

4. Moribund is now resolved and both cards hit their final destinations.

Is that correct?

Yep. :)

Note that while it doesn't matter which goes first in this situation, it will in others. So I will just throw out there that the FIRST PLAYER gets the first opportunity to Respond to the challenge - not necessarily the attacker in the challenge. So in the original scenario, if Player B is the First Player, he will get to trigger Areo before Player A (the attacker) gets to trigger Flame-Pitch Tower.

Would this also be the case for Ellaria Sand's abililty to move a point of power to herself when she participtes on the losing side of a challenge while an attacking character gains a point of power through renown?

Nope. Awarding Renown is a Framework Event (the last of those associated with resolving a challenge, after determining winner, resolving claim and awarding unopposed), while Ellaria Sand's ability is a response. So Renown always comes before Ellaria's ability. Note that Deadly is resolved as a passive effect, so it will always come between these 2.
