A few Character queries

By Capussa, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

What is the benefit of the Old Red Priests (Core B84) rule "After the Old Red Priest is Killed choose and kneel a standing location you control, if able"?

When a character's text states save character from being killed does this require you to save the character by an external means (event, attachment, other characters special rule) or is it a way to save the character? Specifically in the cases of Ser Davos Seaworth (Core B75) & Viserys Targaryen (Core T108)

It isn't a benefit, it's a potential drawback. You're getting a tricon for 1 gold, that's incredible. If and when he dies, you're forced to kneel a location if you can. With any luck, you'll have an Aegon's Garden or some other location that doesn't mind getting knelt.

Yes, Davos and Viserys save themselves through their responses. And Maester Aemon can use his "Save a Night's Watch character" response to save himself.
