For a BC campaign idea I have, it will begin within the city of Cormorragh in the Web-Way. Specifically in prison cells under a gladiatorial arena.
From there however, the PC's would get to tread the spiral of the screaming vortex before (hopefully) ascending from the daemon worlds of the Inner Vortex with the power and knowledge to lead a Black Crusade through the Jericho gate, crushing the IoM crusade from behind, uniting with the chaos forces of the Hadex anomaly, kill the Tau for a bit of fun and then launch an all-out assault on the Death Watch fortress Erioch to capture it and finally release... something... from it's vault.
Possible side treks could be had in the Calixis sector and the Kooronus expanse. I like to think big as a GM...
In the Vortex. Having GMed DH, RT and DW already, I know those regions well and can expand out to any of them if needed, but I want to start my group in the Vortex so that they can establish a power base (followers and allies, a stronghold of their own, etc) outside the Imperium without the risk of Arbitrators, Sisters of Battle, Inquisitors, Grey Knights, etc being dropped on them by the Imperium and/or pre-emptive intervention by the Eldar. Once they've gotten that far, they can go and do whatever they want.

I have to agree - the Vortex is where I see setting my game for the same reasons. IMO, the PCs don't start off as big enough fish to swim in Imperial space at the start. After they get bigger, then the other spots are fun places to expand.
Its the Vortex for me as well, for the excellent reasons that N0-1_H3r3 mentioned, but there will most likely be some off-shots over to the Kronos Expanse and the Calyxis Sector. Then again I'm entirely in the planning stage and things may evolve in a different light. At this time however I am inclined to start things with them being a warband in the service to some form of daemonic patron that is sponsoring them a little. The end goal of the daemon is a truly diabolic plot which will require my PC:s to turn the tables on him, but I hope they'll be ready for it.
But now when I think about it I may actually start in the Calyxis sector and then start with a daring escape over and into the Vortex by the my brave Heretics.

We arn't forgetting the Tyranids, are we?
Woops, can't forget the 'Nids! I wonder if you can possess the hive-mind... Otherwise, only with the united power of the Vortex and the Hadex anomally as well as what they get out of looting the Vault will their be a strong enough force to defeat the 'Nids. The Galaxy can be saved by Chaos!
Started out in the Ragged Helixes, then moving to Kornous Expanse. The group wants to be Chaos Rogue Traders, and mess with the RT group we have going on.

My group loves this idea too. All of the RT character types are fairly easy to replace with BC ones - except the Navigator. I wish there was an easy and balanced way to whip up a renegade Navigator that was 100% BC. Perhaps we'll get one in a later expansion.

Hi!
This was in my mind too, so I will ask to fish for input: How will you accomplish this? How will they get to the Vortex? How will they even know it's inhabited & "viable escape route" (according to RT the Vortex is pretty much a meatgrinder of death)?
Thanks!

my first mission for my little heretics was simple
board light crusier of rogue trader and take from him and turn it into harbinger of doom

Hello!
The idea that I'm working with right now is to have it be somewhat of a version to the Broken Chains adventure. The Heretics would start as a group in the Calyxis Sector that have been captured by the Imperium for dangerous heretical activites. But as they are being transported aboard a ship to their final destination a daemon reaches through to them and offers freedom in return for alliegence - the characters will be heavily hinted to accept this as the campaign resolves on it. This will allow the daemon to interfiere with the ship and release the characters.
The characters then overtakes the small vessel - very small with only perhaps a hundred crewmen or something, and then the daemon guides the ship over to the Screaming Vortex.
That's how it stands right now, but its all work in progress and nothing is set in stone at the moment.
