So I had an idea

By theshadowduke, in Black Crusade

I just rolled up my fallen junior astropath (hehe) and I got to wondering. Do doors and other inanimate objects have strength ratings?

Since Mind over Matter's rapid push is opposed by strength, what if I want to use it on a door? Seems like I should be able to use my mind as a hell of a battering ram. Anyone know where the rules for strength of objects is?

There aren't any official rules that I'm aware of, but a houserule that I've used a couple of times is to compare Strength Bonus and Degrees of Success added together to an object's Armour Points (use the table for cover as a guide on this) - if the total of SB+DoS is equal to or greater than the object's AP, then you've broken through. If not, then keep track of what you did score and you can add that to your total next turn. You can't try and break down something if its AP is more than twice your Strength Bonus - such objects are too heavy and durable to force aside like that.

So how would that work with a power that says if you beat them you shove them X meters? I suppose that you could make its AP modify the difficulty of the focus power test, but then it makes moving anything sturdier than a table difficult. And since the psycic power simply states you shove them, it makes bashing a door in harder than moving a great unclean one (in theory).

Not a bad starting point though.

[EDIT] After thinking about it for a few minutes I realized that you could use the psykers PR as his SB. But then would you use his base PR or his effective PR when determining whether or not he could sunder an object? I would assume the effective PR. This makes it possible for the psyker to be used as a very effective battering ram but with severe consequences. If a psyker has to push to break through an object then he will be rolling on PP table. With the increases on that table for pushing he could very well suffer perils of the warp.

I like that idea, so I'll pass it along to my GM for review. Hopefully it will work out.
