[Queston] Best Transport Hull for Former Chartist Ship background from forums

By Asajev, in Rogue Trader

Hi guys I am up to no good again, and want to make a Former Chartis Transport as an RT ship but I was wondering what the best hull for the theme would be? Guidelines it should make trade objectives its top priority.

Former Chartist Ship Background

Is there a better transport than the universe-class mass conveyor from battlefleet koronus? With a little care you can load that sucker up with just about everything you could possibly want.

Former Chartist Ship Background

My intention in writing the background was to make it suitable for any kind of transport class, really. It can include anything from Universes to Vagabonds.

While the Misericord is often used as an example of a Chartist vessel, it's actually a fairly extreme example, as it's so old, large, and from a probably unique class. That said, if you want to have a Misericord-alike ship, the Universe Class is a good way to go. It's almost as if it was designed with that concept in mind! happy.gif

Alternatively, you could try any of the smaller ships, and adjust the concept accordingly. For example, if you had a chartist Goliath refinery vessel, it's entertaining to consider what kind of society the crew would build up over the centuries: perhaps one that worships plasma energy as the breath of the Emperor or something.

Or consider the Bountiful Beast, a huuuuge food transport that ploughs around the Calixis Sector. Again, it's a unique vessel, again, the crew form a unique society. That's sort of the point of chartist vesels: they're more like mobile communities than a ship's crew - think Vietnamese boat people, the Romany people or Marsh Arabs. These concepts can all be stepping off points for developing a fun concept.

I suppose if you wanted to be completely true to the concept, you could create a totally new transport hull to reflect the fact that the ship is ancient with an ancient voidborn society living aboard it.A shortcut to this process would be to use a generic hull (vagabond springs to mind) give it a new name and history and then say it''s a unique class that is not out of use, and come up with a Gormenghast-style closed society that lives aboard it.

As for maximising trade objectives, well if it's carryig capacity you want, the Universe is the obvious solution, but it's a lemon to steer in a firefight! happy.gif

Hey thanks for your input Lightbringer it helps when the creator of the background explains the logic behind it. I might work on a new transport hull that focuses on this concept.
