Hi again! Is it possible for a third party to play action cards against another player when that other player is fighting someone else. For instance: can "Bob" play the "direct hit" action card on Mark's dreadnought even tho its Mark and John who are fighting?

Depends on the card.

Direct hit, for a specific example, says that it should be played "After a round of a space battle in which you have participated", if I'm not mistaken. This clearly means that a 3rd party could not play it, as they're not in that space battle. Other cards it might be possible, again, you have to pay VERY close attention as to the "when" that a card may be played.
